PAK Vs BAN ODI series under dark clouds [Source: X]
The highly anticipated ODI series between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been jeopardised. After crashing out of the T20 World Cup 2026, the Pakistani team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series against the host nation.
Although the BCB recently unveiled the schedule for Pakistan's tour of Bangladesh, the series is facing uncertainty due to non-cricketing reasons.
Pakistan were set to tour Bangladesh for 3 ODIs
Under Salman Ali Agha's leadership, Pakistan blew hot and cold in the T20 World Cup 2026. Although they won three of four group-stage matches, the Men in Green suffered a heartbreaking defeat to England and eventually failed to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament.

Given that the T20 World Cup didn't end on a happy note for them, the Bangladesh ODIs are a golden opportunity for Pakistan to redeem themselves.
According to the schedule revealed by the BCB, the Pakistani cricket team will face Bangladesh across three ODIs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
Geopolitics threaten Pakistan Vs Bangladesh ODI series
However, as the Men in Green prepare for the high-voltage series, the tour reportedly witnesses a roadblock due to the unstable geopolitical situation in the subcontinent and the Middle East.
As it's well known, the ongoing war between Iran and the United States has worsened the situation in the Middle East. In fact, Iran's retaliatory air strikes have affected several Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Thus, the military conflict has adversely affected the global transportation routes, with several cricketers getting stuck in the war-ridden zones and seeking help from their respective governments.
Furthermore, as Iran seeks the intervention of its friendly countries amid the escalation of its enmity with the United States, it won't be surprising if India and Pakistan get involved to pacify both parties.
Therefore, as reported by Geo Super, the geopolitical instability could prove detrimental to the series between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Thus, although Mohsin Naqvi stepped up and came forward to help the BCB after the ICC ousted Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup, it seems the latter wouldn't return the favour amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
Pakistan could witness wholesale changes for Bangladesh ODIs
The report also states that if the Bangladesh ODI series is played as scheduled, the PCB selection committee might make significant changes to the Men in Green's squad.
Several senior players, including Babar Azam, who failed to live up to the expectations in the T20 World Cup, might face the axe, with the PCB planning to revamp the ODI setup ahead of the 2027 World Cup in Africa.
It's worth noting that opening batter Sahibzada Farhan was the Pakistani team's lone warrior in the batting department, while veteran cricketer Fakhar Zaman redeemed himself with a ballistic fifty in the must-win game against Sri Lanka.
However, the other batters were far from their best, while the likes of Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz let the Men in Green down with middling returns. So, if the Bangladesh tour goes as planned, we may see drastic changes to their existing 50-over setup.
