Naushad Khan with his sons, Sarfaraz and Musheer | PC- X
Sarfaraz Khan's father, Naushad Khan, has recently been at the centre of news for all the good reasons, but he has indirectly taken a jibe at India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
His sons Sarfaraz and Musheer Khan are doing wonderfully well, representing CSK and PBKS in the IPL, respectively. Meanwhile, the elder son has played and done well in the Test match cricket.
Moreover, one of Naushad Khan’s mentees, Suryansh Shedge, recently also donned the Indian jersey.
Sarfaraz Khan’s father bashes Gautam Gambhir, indirectly
Sarfaraz Khan was brought into the Indian Test set-up after doing supremely well in the domestic circuit, scoring bulk runs at a Don Bradman-esque average. Later, he played two series for India at home against England and New Zealand, where he scored a couple of fifties and a gigantic 150.
However, the Mumbai batter was dropped from the Test squad after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where he didn’t even have a chance to prove himself even once across five Test matches.

While referring to the injustice being done to his elder son, Naushad indirectly criticised India's head coach and the Indian team management. He dubbed his son "high-quality tyres" and the team management "car owners" who are not using Sarfaraz properly.
"Our tyre performs in winter, summer, on good roads, and on bad roads. It's up to the owner whether he wants to put it in the front row, the second row, or use it as a stepney," Naushad Khan said while giving a bite to journalist Rohit Juglan.

Sarfaraz Khan and the curious case of dressing room leaks
After the hard loss in the BGT 2024/25, head coach Gautam Gambhir was reportedly furious with one of the Indian team members, later said to be Sarfaraz Khan, blaming him for leaking dressing-room information to the media.
It is worth noting that reports surfaced regarding a specific “Mr Fix It” in the Indian team, who had pushed for his name to be India’s interim captain when the Indian side was in deep waters. Moreover, Gambhir had allegedly blamed the India for failing to execute his plans, which caused a massive defeat in the Boxing Day Test.
Although the head coach categorically dismissed all rumours around Sarfaraz leaking to the media, the middle order has not been called up to the India squad since then.
Sarfaraz Khan pushing for India comeback
After being dropped from India's squad, Sarfaraz Khan has worked tremendously on his fitness and fielding. He continued his run-scoring habit at the domestic level, both for Mumbai and India A.
Later, he was picked by Chennai for the IPL 2026, where he started the season with a bang, playing cameos in the middle and then translated it into a fine fifty vs RCB. However, he wasted a couple of opportunities in the latter half of the tournament before getting dropped.
With the India side going through a transition, there is certainly a chance for Sarfaraz Khan in the Test setup. However, his technique against quality short-pitched bowling weakens his case for challenging conditions, such as in SENA countries.
