Virat Kohli has always been an enigma among cricket admirers and even some of his colleagues. A month ago, he was papped in London while having a coffee meeting with his RCB teammate, Jordon Cox.

The former Indian captain will soon be donning the Indian colours in the three-match ODI series against England, starting on July 14 at Birmingham.

Kohli, who just plays ODIs, missed India’s last ODI series vs Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury that he sustained in the IPL 2026 final. However, the 37-year-old is said to have cleared his fitness test.

Jordon Cox opens up about his viral meeting with Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli's RCB teammate, Jordon Cox, has recently opened up about meeting the star batter, who has moved to London with his family to seek privacy. Recently, the two cricketers were photographed, and a small coffee meeting made headlines, which somewhat annoyed the RCB duo.

“The upsetting thing for him is that people are following him without him knowing. Hundreds of people walked past us, no one stopped, no one did anything. But then, about two hours later, he’s texting me, going Have you seen all these photos? I was like ‘what the hell?’," Jordon Cox told the Guardian.

“It’s just a shame how many people want a piece of him. He just wants to go under the radar, have fun and live a normal life. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible," the English batter added.

What was Virat Kohli's role in Jordon Cox's Test debut?

Notably, Jordon Cox met the legendary Virat Kohli just before making his Test debut vs New Zealand. The meeting that got papped would have been about the 25-year-old clearing some doubts from the maverick batter, who has had some ups and downs in England.

Cox made his Test debut at the Oval, playing in place of Ben Stokes, who was ruled out of the game due to disciplinary issues. Although he couldn’t have a dream start on debut, the wicketkeeper played two fine knocks against a well-balanced Blackcaps attack, but in a losing cause.

The Essex batter has come through the ranks in English cricket with a reputation as a hard hitter, even though he has impressive numbers in First-Class and T20 cricket.

In 64 FC matches, Cox has racked up 4145 runs at an average of 43.17. In T20s, he has amassed 4107 runs at a strike rate of 140.17. With those numbers, he will soon be pushing for a spot in England's Test and T20I teams, if he hasn't already been pushing.

IND vs ENG ODI crucial for Virat Kohli

Coming to Virat Kohli, who would be returning to the cricket field for the first time since bagging 675 runs in the most recent IPL season, where he lifted the trophy for the second straight time.

The prolific batter will be a key member of the Indian ODI squad, given that the team is shaping up for the World Cup 2027.

With 15771 runs and 54 centuries in the format, Kohli has to be one of the first names on the flight to South Africa next year. However, if reports are to be believed, Kohli still has to prove a little more to the team management, and the England series will be crucial for him.

Team India will take on England in three ODIs between July 14 and 19 at Birmingham, Cardiff and London, respectively.
