The BCCI roped in Sarfaraz Khan on August 9 due to the injury to India's number three Test batter, Sai Sudharsan. Sarfaraz's call-up was a blessing for the 28-year-old, who had been away from the Test setup for almost two years.

As Sarfaraz, who was earlier criticised for his fitness and body weight, returns to the Indian Test setup, the cricketer himself shared his first reaction on social media with a witty yet positive gesture.

Sarfaraz Khan Reacts On Instagram After India Call-Up

After sealing his selection in the IND vs SL tour, Sarfaraz took to his official Instagram handle and shared two pictures of himself and his father, Naushad Khan.

Sarfaraz only shared cryptic emojis of a handshake and the Indian flag in the caption of his solo picture, effectively celebrating his call-up for India. He also shared another picture featuring his father, Naushad Khan, who stared at his son in a loving and affectionate manner.

The picture signified how Naushad, himself a cricket coach, has struggled to see his son reach such high levels and represent India again after making his debut in 2024, and has faced an almost climactic end to his career due to fitness issues and underwhelming performances.

The post of Sarfaraz Khan on social media garnered immediate attention, receiving 169K likes within 13 hours, along with thousands of comments from friends and followers who wished him all the best for his journey ahead.

Why Is The Sri Lanka Tour Important For Sarfaraz Khan?

Sarfaraz made his Test debut against England in 2024, when expectations were high following his massive run spree in the Ranji Trophy season.

Sarfaraz responded with equal valour, scoring 200 runs across three matches on the back of three half-centuries and averaging 50 in the series. His successful England series earned him a place in the team for the New Zealand series as well.

However, his first-match heroics, when he scored 150 runs, were soon overshadowed by a poor streak of 11, 9, 0 and 1 across the remaining two matches. This proved to be the final straw for Khan, as he eventually vanished from the setup, with his number six position eventually being given to Dhruv Jurel, the wicketkeeper-batter.

Now, as Khan returns to the setup, there will be a lot for him to prove with the bat since Jurel is already in the squad and Khan is replacing Sai Sudharsan. An emphatic run of form during this Sri Lanka tour could mean Khan permanently cementing his place in the playing XI.

How Did Sarfaraz Fight For His Spot In India?

Sarfaraz Khan's fight for his spot in the Indian Test team was not easy. Since his 2024 omission, Khan has worked vehemently on his fitness and lost a significant amount of body weight to look sharper than ever.

He has also produced impressive performances on the field with his newly improved athletic abilities. That provides a solid argument for his improved ability as a fielder.

What has been most interesting is his grind in the red-ball setup. In the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, he averaged 53.63 from just nine innings while also scoring a double century for Mumbai.

Now, as he contends for a place in India's playing XI, there could be a toss-up between Dhruv Jurel and him for the middle-order position, with Devdutt Padikkal, who has been in solid form, expected to take up the number three spot in place of Sai Sudharsan.

It will be an interesting battle to see whether Dhruv Jurel or Sarfaraz Khan gets a place in the middle order, or whether Khan will have to settle for the call-up without earning a spot in the playing XI.
