Major update on Rohit Sharma's participation vs CSK [Source: AFP]
Rohit Sharma is the Mumbai Indians’ most experienced player in the IPL 2026, but in the last few games, the franchise has missed his services as the star batter is nursing a hamstring injury and has not played in the last few MI matches.
The batter suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 clash between RCB and MI, and initial scans revealed that Rohit would be out for a couple of IPL matches, but it has been two weeks, and there is no clear timeline given for his return to the playing XI.
Jayawardene gives update on Rohit Sharma's comeback
MI have won just two games out of eight in the IPL, and the team is certainly missing Rohit’s prowess at the top. The fans are eager for his comeback in the playing XI, and ahead of the must-win clash against CSK on Saturday, MI head coach, Mahela Jayawardene broke his silence on Rohit’s IPL return.
The head coach revealed that Rohit is working hard on his fitness, and the team will make a decision tomorrow regarding India great’s return to the playing XI against CSK.
As quoted by Cricbuzz: "He's working really hard to get back at it. So for us with the medical team, it's on a daily basis. We see now he feels, how he pulls up the next day. So we'll make a decision tomorrow. We'll see him practicing today as well. So let's see how he feels tomorrow and what the medical team will tell us," Jayawardene said at the MI Vs CSK pre-game presser.

The injury that dented Rohit's IPL 2026 season
Rohit was having a fine IPL season before an injury derailed his campaign. It was in the home match against the RCB side at Wankhede that Rohit went out of the field due to a hamstring injury.
Batting on 19 off 13, Rohit looked scratchy in the middle. With unbearable humidity in Mumbai, the opening batter looked uncomfortable, and after a discussion with the physio, the former MI captain decided to walk off the field.
Since then, the former MI captain has been on the sidelines as the team sweats hard on his IPL 2026 comeback.
Before getting injured, Rohit had accumulated 137 runs in four innings, with a strike rate of 165.
Not only Rohit, MS Dhoni also set to miss MI Vs CSK
Judging by Jayawardene’s statement, it seems like Rohit might not feature against the Super Kings on Saturday. However, he is not the only experienced campaigner who might miss out on the crucial MI Vs CSK IPL match.
CSK’s former captain, MS Dhoni is also nursing a calf injury, and he has yet to play a single game in the entire IPL 2026.
The 44-year-old CSK veteran has been practising hard in the nets, but he has not reached the physical fitness required to play in an IPL match.
