Developments are not stopping from coming from the Lucknow Super Giants camp. Earlier, it was reported that they would let go of their former skipper, Rishabh Pant, and days later, it is understood that owner Sanjiv Goenka has handpicked the successor.
It is no secret that the LSG owner is heavily invested in all the decisions the franchise takes. Moreover, it has been the case under his leadership during the RPSG Group’s two-year stint with the Rising Pune Supergiants franchise.
The LSG franchise has had two back-to-back poor seasons under Rishabh Pant, who was backed as Lucknow’s confirmed leader for 10 years when the wicketkeeper was acquired for INR 27 crore ahead of IPL 2024.
However, as things stand at the moment, the LSG-Rishabh Pant association may come to an end ahead of the next edition, as the drama between the two parties was gruelling even during the IPL 2026.
Mitchell Marsh set to replace Rishabh Pant as LSG captain
As reported by Cricblogger, Australian T20I captain Mitchell Marsh is being looked at as Rishabh Pant's successor at LSG.
Although the franchise has Aiden Markram as an option as well, Marsh may get the backing of the coaches present in their camp.

It is worth mentioning that the franchise has two of its coaches from Australia, i.e. Head Coach Justin Langer and the Director of Cricket Tom Moody.
"Australian player Mitchell Marsh is emerging as the frontrunner to become the next T20 captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, replacing Rishabh Pant," the report by Cricblogger said.
Despite downfall, Mitchell Marsh been LSG's match-winner
Although LSG haven't had the desired results in the last two IPL seasons, the returns on Mitchell Marsh have been consistent.
Signed by the franchise in 2026, the Aussie dasher, who now just plays as a batter, has racked up 1190 runs in 23 innings at a whopping strike rate of 163.5, including two centuries and nine fifties.
The right-handed opener is already the third run-scorer for the franchise, playing just two seasons for LSG. He is just next to Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul on the list.
If Marsh gets the top position at LSG, it will be the second time an Australian gets Sanjiv Goenka's blessing. MS Dhoni was replaced by Steve Smith in IPL 2017, when the RPSG Group owned the Pune-based franchise.
Although the decision didn't sit well with the fans, the Rising Pune Supergiants finished as runners-up that season.
Kuldeep Yadav to move from DC to LSG
In other developments, Rishabh Pant is reportedly in talks with the Delhi Capitals for a homecoming in IPL 2027. The wicketkeeper may get a heavy salary cut if he shifts his base from Lucknow to the capital city.
On the other hand, LSG may get Kuldeep Yadav traded from DC after the left-arm leg-spinner didn’t do that well in IPL 2026. Nevertheless, it will be a win-win for both Kuldeep and LSG, as the franchise does not have a frontline spinner and the tweaker will get to play in front of his home crowd.
