Rift In Afghanistan! Fareed Malik's Hilarious Fielding Makes Ziaur Rahman Furious

Afghanistan’s tour of India took a dreadful turn in the third ODI as a dramatic fielding blunder sparked open hostility in the visitors’ camp.

Chasing a meagre 218, Rohit Sharma smashed a delivery from Ziaur Rahman Sharifi straight to Fareed Ahmad Malik, who lost the ball in the lights and backed away entirely.

The result, which went for a one-bounce four, left Ziaur frustrated. He rounded on Malik with a furious verbal volley, exposing a clear rift in an Afghan side already bending under the weight of a dismal batting performance.

Afghanistan Camp In Distress With Dismal Total

Afghanistan’s innings opened after a promising middle-order recovery. Prasidh Krishna ran riot with a career-best 5 for 23, reducing the tourists to 36 for 4 inside ten overs.

Hashmatullah Shahidi battled to a magnificent 102 off 131 balls, and Azmatullah Omarzai smashed a 56-ball 50 to lift the score to 141 for 5. But the collapse resumed brutally, the last five wickets tumbled for just 12 runs, with Afghanistan bundled out for 218 in 44.2 overs.

It was a total that looked thoroughly inadequate on a good batting surface, leaving the bowlers with next to no margin for error.

The Horrible Catch Drop That Gave Rohit Sharma A Lifeline

In the fifth over, Ziaur Rahman Sharifi banged one in short and wide, tempting Rohit to throw his hands at a cut shot. The ball flew high in the air, swirling towards a wide deep third man.

Fareed Malik, stationed perfectly, suddenly froze. He flapped his hands, lost it completely in the floodlights, and made no attempt to lay a finger on the ball as it dropped safely and sped away to the rope.

Rohit Sharma, on just a handful of runs, had been handed a massive early life. Ziaur stood mid-pitch, mouth agape, then erupted as Malik signalled helplessly at the lights.

Ziaur Scolds Malik Angrily

What followed the boundary was even uglier. Ziaur Rahman badmouthed on camera at Malik and launched into an animated, no-holds-barred scolding right on the outfield, jabbing his finger towards the sky before pointing accusingly at the fielder.

Malik, head bowed, tried to explain that the glare had blinded him, but Ziaur was in no mood to listen. The exchange lingered uncomfortably as other players looked on before Ziaur went on for the next delivery.

India Dominate Afghanistan After Bowling Heroics

With the lifeline secure, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal made Afghanistan pay mercilessly. The pair motored to 95 without loss in just 12.3 overs, reducing the target to a trivial 124 runs needed from 225 balls.

Jaiswal was the aggressor, racing to a 39-ball half-century studded with seven fours and a six, while Rohit anchored with 32 from 38 deliveries.

Every Afghan bowler suffered. Omarzai conceded 26 in two overs, Malik was punished at nearly ten an over, and even Rashid Khan’s lone over of tidy spin could not halt the tide.

India’s asking rate hovered around a laughable 3.31 as Afghanistan’s dismal total and that moment of fielding farce had conspired to gift the hosts an utterly one-sided cruise, leaving the visitors washed by 3-0.
