The IPL 2027 season has already heated up even before the start of the season. Trade talks and staff upgrades are currently the talk of the town, and the Delhi Capitals are garnering all the attention.
After rumours of a massive trade with LSG for Rishabh Pant, DC are likely set to go back to ex-India captain and CAB President Sourav Ganguly for an apex role.
As per recent reports, Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani is set to be replaced ahead of the next Indian Premier League season, as the team has found little to no success under his mentorship and will move forward with Sourav Ganguly.
Hemang Badani’s Tenure As DC Head Coach
Hemang stepped into the head coach role for DC back in October 2024, ahead of the IPL 2025 season, effectively replacing Ricky Ponting. He took charge of rebuilding the squad ahead of the mega auction, but the team lacked consistency and failed miserably to finish fifth on the points table in the 2025 season.
In the 2026 season, too, Badani’s men won 7 out of 14 games and finished sixth on the points table, resulting in a non-qualification for the playoffs and a disappointing overall performance.
Now, recent rumours have grown about the talks of Badani and his coaching staff to be replaced completely ahead of IPL 2027 by veteran cricketer Ganguly, who also had a long association with the franchise earlier.

Sourav Ganguly To Replace Hemang Badani As Delhi Capitals Head Coach
According to a Cricbuzz report, Ganguly has been approached by the franchise to serve as head of cricket affairs. Ganguly is no stranger to the franchise.
In 2019, he joined as the Director of Cricket for JSW Sports and oversaw the activities of the franchise across different T20 leagues across the world.
In 2023, he was appointed as the Director for the DC franchise itself. Although the tenure was short, with his likely return ahead of IPL 2027, it is understood that Hemang Badani would be axed from his coaching role.
Delhi Capitals Looking For A Complete Revamp Ahead Of IPL 2027
It is evident from the recent talks that DC is looking forward to a complete overhaul ahead of the new season. Alongside coaching staff overhaul with Yuvraj Singh and Sourav Ganguly’s inclusion, DC is also actively involved in talks of a Rishabh Pant trade.
Besides, a change in captaincy is in the works, with Axar Patel likely to be replaced by KL Rahul. Although it is a solid move, if seen through the eyes of the management, given that Rahul brings experience and leadership skills, it is unlikely that Rahul will accept the role.
After Rahul was roped in by DC for IPL 2025, he was offered the captaincy, but he rejected the position.
Hence, that might be the reason why Delhi Capitals is searching for Rishabh Pant, and if the trade-off is sealed, Axar’s removal might be replaced with Pant’s captaincy, and DC gets a complete overhaul ahead of the IPL 2027 season.
