Shashank Singh had a night to wipe from his memory in the field for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their recent IPL 2026 win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19, 2026. This game was played at the Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh.
PBKS continued their dominating run with a thumping performance. With batters playing fearless cricket and bowlers bowling away opposition batters. However, the catching part of the PBKS players must have left the team concerned going forward in the tournament.
Shashank Singh drops simple catches
On the field, Shashank Singh had a horrible evening. The 14th over was Shashank's first missed opportunity. Nicholas Pooran, LSG’s big-hitter, failed to time a slog off Yuzvendra Chahal's bowling. Shashank only managed to get fingertips on the ball, though.
Aiden Markram struck a six in the eighteenth over, but Shashank at sweeper cover missed the ball's flight. Mukul Choudhary was dismissed by Shashank when he fumbled another catch an over later. Shashank caught the ball as he ran in from deep square-leg, but it escaped before he could securely catch it.

Ricky Ponting mockingly warns Shashank Singh during the post-match meet
Whenever Shashank Singh dropped a catch, the camera panned towards PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting, who watched it all unfold in utter disbelief. Punting himself was known to be a great fielder, and watching his player drop such sitters would’ve incensed him to no end.
After PBKS won the match, however, Shreyas Iyer was then observed making light of the serious situation by jokingly concealing Shashank with his cap when they went up to Ricky Ponting.
PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting won hearts with his gesture towards Shashank Singh, even though the seniors might give him a hard time for such serious mistakes. He released any stress by grinning and giving the cricket player a loving embrace as he held out his hand.
Punjab Kings consolidate top spot after LSG demolition
Coming to the match, Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly's outstanding 182-run partnership for the second wicket helped the Punjab Kings, who had batted first, post 254/7. Little Arya was the star of the show, hitting 93 in 37 balls with four fours and nine sixes, while Connolly scored 87 in 46 balls with eight fours and seven sixes.
Marcus Stoinis' quick 29 and assistance from Nehal Wadhera (13) and Shashank Singh (17) allowed PBKS to reach 254/7 in 20 overs despite LSG taking a few wickets.
Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni tried to do the same in the LSG chase, scoring 61 runs in 6 overs. Badoni was removed for 35, while Marsh amassed 40 runs in 28 balls. Rishabh Pant heroically struck 43 in 23 balls, while Aiden Markram scored 42 in 22 balls.
The total proved to be too big for LSG to chase, though, as they lost wickets often and no set batter scored a substantial amount. LSG managed just 200/5 in 20 overs before losing to PBKS by 54 runs.
