Punjab Kings (PBKS) continued their dominating form in the IPL 2026, as they decimated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their most recent game, which was played in New Chandigarh. PBKS registered a comfortable 54-run win over LSG in grand fashion, consolidating their no. 1 spot in the points table.

However, during the LSG innings, PBKS's catching came into focus as they dropped not one, but four catches in the dying moments of the game. And in the middle of it all was Shashank Singh, who dropped three of those catches.

Punjab Kings thunder to a win over Lucknow Super Giants, thanks to Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly

Punjab Kings had batted first and posted 254/7 thanks to a brilliant 182-run partnership for the second wicket between Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly. The star of the show was little Arya, who hit 93 in 37 balls with 4 fours and 9 sixes, while Connolly scored 87 in 46 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes.

Although LSG took a few wickets, PBKS reached 254/7 in 20 overs because of Marcus Stoinis' rapid 29 and help from Nehal Wadhera (13) and Shashank Singh (17).

In the chase for LSG, Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni attempted to accomplish the same, scoring 61 runs in 6 overs. Marsh scored 40 runs in 28 balls, while Badoni was dismissed for 35. Aiden Markram scored 42 in 22 balls, while Rishabh Pant bravely hit 43 in 23 balls.

However, LSG lost wickets frequently, and no set batter went on to score a significant amount; therefore, the total proved to be too large for them to chase. LSG lost to PBKS by 54 runs after managing just 200/5 in 20 overs.

Shashank Singh’s night to forget

During the IPL 2026 match at Mullanpur versus the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Shashank Singh had a terrifying night on the pitch. One of the IPL's most potent hitters in recent memory, Shashank, turned down a chance off Nicholas Pooran on the leg side in the 14th over of the innings, but the West Indian was removed an over later by Marco Jansen.

The right-handed batter had a second opportunity in the 18th over of the innings, but he misjudged the ball and thought it would sail way over the boundary, but it fell just inside.

In the 19th over, Xavier Bartlett sent down the 34-year-old's third missed catch when he shelled it while sprinting from deep square leg.

In a video that surfaced on social media, Shreyas Iyer, who was fielding at the boundary line, broke into splits, as did Musheer Khan, who was beyond the boundary line after Shashank’s fielding lapse. Musheer had to hide his face with a towel while Iyer just grinned at the poor catching by his teammate.
