Punjab-based cricketer, Pulkit Sharma, seems to have exposed a certain level of ‘corruption’ in the Indian state. In an explosive social media post, the local cricketer claimed that he was forced to bribe over two dozen officials just to get his legal land registered.

Shortly after the post went viral, his account was suddenly deactivated, with many social media users claiming it to be a deliberate attempt to silence his allegations and suppress the issue before it could gain further traction.

Pulkit Sharma narrates land registration ordeal

Last week, Pulkit Sharma took to his X account and narrated his land registration ordeal in Punjab. The local Punjab cricketer claimed that he was forced to pay a bribe to a tehsildar (revenue officer), as well as to 28 other officials, who all supposedly had their “rates fixed”.

Pulkit added that he paid the bribes out of fear of getting his file “stuck” over just one misstep. The cricketer further stated that the land he purchased was completely legal, but was still forced to pay bribes to the “crooked Punjab administration”.

He also advised others to not invest in Punjab. Taking to X, Pulkit Sharma wrote “I recently completed a Registration for a Land in Punjab. The amount of bribe we had to pay to the Teshsildar and + 28 other people was insane. The lawyer said everyone has their rate fixed. Even one miss step? Your file will be stuck. The Land I bought was WHITE. For something so transparent, I had to pay bribes to the crooked Punjab administration. It’s criminal to invest in Punjab. Shameful.”

In his reply, Pulkit Sharma claimed that his land file kept circling around despite being cleared by credible officials on time. He also added that some officials often indirectly threaten individuals that their file will not move forward without “weight”.

Cricketer gets his X account deleted

The X account of Pulkit Sharma was deleted shortly after his explosive social media post went viral. The sudden disappearance of his account has only intensified speculation, with many online users questioning whether external pressure played a role in its removal.

As the controversy continues to gain momentum, several X users raised questions about the timing of the deletion and sought clarity on the reason behind his account’s deactivation.

Pulkit Sharma’s ordeal exposes a harsh reality

Pulkit Sharma’s ordeal highlights the broader concerns often associated with administrative processes in many sensitive matters in the country, where delays and procedural complexities can create uncertainty for individuals.

While his claims remain personal and unverified, the episode has once again brought attention to the importance of transparency and accountability in public dealings.

Shifting the focus back to the sport, the episode places an unexpected spotlight on a cricketer whose name has otherwise remained outside India's mainstream cricketing discourse.

While the incident has generated attention beyond the field, it also underscores how off-field developments can momentarily intersect with the sporting space.
