USA Cricket Moves Closer To ICC Return After Bankruptcy Settlement

USA Cricket has received a major boost after the United States Bankruptcy Court approved its settlement with American Cricket Enterprises (ACE). The court-approved settlement ends a long-running legal dispute, provides the governing body with fresh financial support and clears the way for it to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. 

The ruling also strengthens USA Cricket’s efforts to get its administration back on track as it looks to have its ICC suspension lifted.

Earlier this year, the USA men’s team featured in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The governing body is currently overseeing the ongoing MLC 2026 season.

Court approves settlement between USA Cricket and ACE

The court-approved settlement brings to an end a dispute that began after USA Cricket and ACE entered into a commercial partnership in 2019. The partnership later broke down over disagreements surrounding governance and the agreement itself, with USA Cricket attempting to terminate the deal in 2025 before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Under the court-approved settlement, ACE will provide $480,000 in post-petition financing and contribute another $340,000 towards administrative and unsecured claims. The company will also provide exit financing and withdraw its $150 million proof of claim, giving USA Cricket much-needed financial relief as it works towards exiting bankruptcy.

Several objections were raised during the bankruptcy proceedings, but the court dismissed all of them before approving the settlement. With one major legal hurdle now out of the way, USA Cricket can focus on restructuring the organisation and moving closer to having its ICC suspension lifted.

MLC CEO reacts to court settlement

The landmark ruling occurred at a crucial moment for USA Cricket, as the nation prepares to host the historic cricket event of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. 

Earlier, the ACE successfully delivered USA Cricket its new cricket stadium in Los Angeles, one which is set to host 2028 Olympics matches in a couple of years’ time.

Reacting to the development and the settlement approved by the court, MLC CEO Johnny Grave said “We are pleased that the Court has approved the settlement and financing arrangements.”

What’s next for USA Cricket?

After securing a historic Super 8 finish at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, the USA cricket team recorded two wins in the Group stage of this year’s 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. 

As of now, several USA as well as overseas cricketers are taking part in the ongoing MLC 2026 season. 

Amid MLC 2026, the USA cricket team is also on a break from international cricket, particularly from the 2024-2026 Cricket World Cup League 2. 

After touring Canada for a tri-series with Canada and Netherlands last month, USA is also scheduled to host Namibia and the UAE later this year as the team places its best bet to secure a place in the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
