In a major update, Rashid Khan has received a new appointment in the middle of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). The Afghanistan all-rounder is currently playing for Gujarat Titans in the ongoing tournament.
So far in the tournament, Rashid Khan has delivered a decent performance compared to his usual high standards. He has scored 24 runs in 2 innings. In addition, with the ball, he has taken 5 wickets in 4 matches. These numbers show that he is contributing in both batting and bowling, even though fans expect even more from him.
It is important to note that Rashid Khan went through back surgery in 2024. Since then, his impact on the field has slightly reduced. In IPL 2024, he picked up 10 wickets in 12 matches. After that, in IPL 2025, he managed 9 wickets in 15 matches.
Even so, there are clear signs of improvement now. In a recent match against the Delhi Capitals, he delivered a strong performance by taking three wickets for 17 runs in four overs.
Rashid Khan appointed to Player Advisory Board
Amid the IPL 2026 season, Rashid Khan has now been appointed to the Player Advisory Board of the World Cricketers’ Association (WCA).
This is an important role, as it allows players to share their views on global cricket matters. He joins other new members such as Chamari Athapaththu, Wayne Madsen, Daryl Mitchell, and Maddy Green.
These updates come after the retirement of Tim Southee and the departure of Sophie Devine. The WCA expressed appreciation for their contributions.
“The WCA thanks Tim Southee and Sophie Devine for their significant contribution to the PAB, recognising their leadership in representing and advancing outcomes for players and the global game."
The new members now join experienced players such as Pat Cummins, Jason Holder, Heather Knight, Aiden Markram, Scott Edwards, and Laura Wolvaardt.
What is the role of the PAB?
The Player Advisory Board was formed in 2018. It works under the main WCA Board and connects directly with players’ associations around the world. It plays a key role in giving players a voice in global cricket matters.
The board covers important topics such as ICC events, scheduling, and commercial aspects of the game. In addition, it represents players from 17 major cricketing nations.

CEO’s statement on player involvement
The WCA CEO also shared his thoughts on this development:
“Players continue to be highly engaged on the global issues impacting cricket and the players. Our recent meetings with the international men’s teams were another great opportunity to hear their collective perspective and discuss the direction of the game.
The players care about cricket’s long-term health and success, and there was strong discussion around the game’s global potential, including participation in the 2028 Olympics. The players also shared their views on key global issues and received WCA updates relating to both player opportunities and rights.
Players around the world recognise the importance of working collectively to both protect their rights and contribute to the growth and sustainability of the global game. At this important time for cricket, players want to help ensure the whole sport thrives.”
