Ramiz Raja pulls poor joke on Pakistan cricketer [Source: AFP]
Former cricketer turned commentator Ramiz Raja publicly humiliated a young Pakistan finisher after his heroic knock for Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing PSL 2026 season.
The moment happened after Zalmi beat Karachi Kings by a significant margin of 159 runs. Batting first, Peshawar posted 246 runs on the board after Kushal Mendis’ 109 off 52 balls, a blazing knock.
Ramiz Raja takes an unnecessary jibe at young Pakistan talent
While Peshawar Zalmi were approaching a safe total, young talent Abdul Samad decided to make his mark. Batting at no. 5, Samad unleashed carnage, scoring 40* off just 12 balls, including 3 fours and 4 towering sixes.
His fantastic finish helped the Zalmi put 246 runs on the board, which eventually proved to be too good for Karachi Kings.
Karachi folded for just 87 runs, resulting in a one-sided victory for the Zalmi. However, in a post-match interview, commentator and former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja cracked an awkward joke on Abdul Samad.
He asked the youngster whether anyone in his family had a cricketing background. When Samad replied "no", Ramiz Raja jokingly quipped why he chose to make the “mistake” of pursuing cricket anyway.

While the comment was sarcasm for Ramiz Raja, it came out as a subtle insult to Abdul Samad and his heroics. However, the Pakistan youngster took it sportingly and didn’t clap back.

Who is Abdul Samad?
Abdul Samad is steadily carving out his place in Pakistan cricket. Hailing from Faisalabad, the right-handed batter has taken the traditional domestic route, grinding through Pakistan’s system before earning opportunities at both franchise and international levels.
Samad’s rise hasn’t been built on hype but on gradual progression. From representing sides like Pakistan International Airlines to making his way into Pakistan A and eventually the Pakistan national cricket team, his journey reflects persistence more than overnight success.
His recent debut in ODIs against Bangladesh in March 2026 marked a significant milestone, signalling the selectors’ growing trust in his potential.
However, Samad’s career is still very much a work in progress. His international numbers remain modest, and his first-class record suggests room for improvement in longer formats.
Babar Azam also finds his way back
Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi also saw their captain Babar Azam get back in form in their 159-run victory over Karachi Kings in recent PSL 2026 game. The opener scored 87* off 51 balls, including 10 fours and 2 sixes.
He stitched a 191-run partnership with Kusal Mendis and a 49-run stand with Abdul Samad. After a long string of poor scores, Babar Azam is finally showing signs of a comeback, which is crucial for Peshawar Zalmi.
That being said, with that victory, Zalmi climbed to the second spot on the points table while Karachi Kings dropped to the fourth spot.
