Australian legend David Warner has found himself at the centre of news after being charged with a drink and drive case during a short visit back home. The incident, which took place in Maroubra, Sydney, has drawn strong reactions, especially given David Warner's ongoing commitments in the PSL 2026.

Warner was pulled over by New South Wales Police for a routine breath test. The test allegedly revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.104, which is more than double the legal driving limit in Australia.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he was charged. The 39-year-old has been asked to appear in court in Sydney on May 7.

The timing of the incident has gained limelight as David Warner is currently leading Karachi Kings in the PSL 2026 season. He had taken a short break from the tournament after receiving permission to return to Australia during a gap in the PSL schedule.

Reports suggest that Warner attempted to park his car before reaching the testing checkpoint, which drew police attention. After failing the roadside test, he was taken to the station, where further testing confirmed the high alcohol reading.

Dominic Cork takes brutal dig at David Warner

The incident has not gone unnoticed in the cricketing world. Former England cricketer Dominic Cork openly criticised Warner’s decision to leave the PSL mid-season.

The commentator expressed disappointment over players taking breaks during important tournaments, especially when their teams are performing well. He suggested that such decisions can disrupt team momentum and questioned the commitment of players who choose to travel during competitions.

Dominic Cork said, "People going on holiday and things like that I'm not a big lover. When you're winning & at the top of the table, keep the team together."

Impact on PSL Campaign after the incident

While the legal proceedings may not immediately affect David Warner’s participation, the controversy could have indirect consequences on his PSL campaign. As captain, he plays a crucial role in shaping team morale and performance.

Karachi Kings have shown strong form this season, and David Warner’s experience has been vital. The franchise invested heavily in him, signing him for PKR 7.9 crore and also entrusted him with leadership responsibilities.

So far, Warner’s performances have been mixed. In three matches, he scored 93 runs at a strike-rate of 136.76 and an average of 23.25, including a crucial half-century that helped Karachi Kings secure a win against Rawalpindiz.

In Karachi Kings' last match against Peshawar Zalmi, Warner failed to impress with the bat and departed for a duck.

Overall, looking at the PSL 2026 points table, Karachi Kings is currently in fourth place with three wins in four matches. Their most recent and first defeat of the season came at the hands of the Peshawar Zalmi by a massive 159 runs.
