The ongoing PSL 2026 has witnessed several controversies, ranging from ball-tampering issues to players breaching the PSL Code of Conduct off the field. A league that calls itself the “Second best T20 franchise league” after the IPL has been nothing short of controversial, as every single day, something new happens that tarnishes its reputation.

In recent days, the league’s reputation has taken a massive hit after one of the players, Fakhar Zaman, who represents Lahore Qalandars, was found guilty of ball-tampering. With PSL trying to revive itself after such a massive incident, another controversial moment occurred in the match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United.

Broadcasting error creates another controversial moment in PSL 2026

In the high-octane match between Quetta and Islamabad United, broadcasters made a huge blunder towards the end of the Quetta innings. In the last two overs, the scoreboard suddenly disappeared, which resulted in a lot of confusion amongst those watching.

The confusion resulted in a miscalculation as dot balls were added in front of a player when he actually took a double. Moreover, the score of one player was added in front of another batter, as there was no scorecard visible.

A lot of fans criticised the PCB and its Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi for this mismanagement as it tarnished the image of the marquee T20 league of Pakistan, where world-class players are taking part.

Not the first time PSL broadcasters have been criticised

This is not the first time the PSL broadcasters have been taken to the cleaners. Ever since the PSL 2026 started, fans have been critical of the broadcasting quality, and they have lambasted the PCB for not improving the standards to match the bar set by other T20 franchise leagues.

In the opening match of PSL 2026, fans were upset with the camera resolutions used by PCB. The board broadcasts the game in 1080p, while the fans demand the PSL to be shown in 4K, something which the ICC does during its annual events.

With no fans in the stadium, artificial crowd noise was used by the PSL, which turned out to be an annoying prospect as fans were unhappy with it. Viewers reported poor audio quality, with distorted commentary and strange background noises interfering with the match experience.

PSL 2026 comes under scrutiny with bizarre decisions made

Fans were excited as the PSL 11 was scheduled to be played in six different venues; however, the plan changed due to the ongoing Iran-Israel-USA war situation. There is a shortage of fuel in the country, and as a result, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi decided that PSL 2026 will only take place in two venues- Lahore, and Karachi.

The Chairman came under scrutiny, as last year, he promised the fans that PSL in 2026 would take place in more than two venues, but Naqvi eventually flipped from his original statement.

Also, due to the fuel shortage and economic crisis in Pakistan, Naqvi stated that no fans would be allowed to attend PSL matches, and the entire event would occur behind closed doors, a decision that met with heavy criticism.
