In a major update, a key member of the Pakistan cricket team recently underwent surgery during the ongoing PSL 2026. The tournament, which began on March 26, is currently being played behind closed doors.
To begin with, Mike Hesson has been an important part of Pakistan cricket since 2025. He officially started his role as the white-ball head coach on May 26, 2025. He took over from interim coach Aqib Javed, who had stepped in after Gary Kirsten resigned suddenly. Since then, Hesson has played a key role in shaping the team’s direction.

In addition, Pakistan showed strong performances in the Asia Cup 2025. Under Hesson’s leadership, the team led by Salman Ali Agha reached the final. The squad performed impressively in both the group stage and the Super Four stage. Even though they could not secure the title, their journey reflected consistency and strength.

The 50-year-old coach successfully underwent the operation at a hospital in Lahore. According to reports, he chose to undergo treatment in Lahore after noticing a lump in his back.
After the procedure, Hesson expressed his appreciation for the care he received. "Been a big week getting a rather large Facet Synovial Cyst removed," Hesson wrote.
"Special thanks to my surgeon Dr Asif Basher and the rest of the PCB medical team who looked after me incredibly well throughout," he added.
Notably, doctors advised him to take two weeks of rest after the surgery. Following this, he returned to New Zealand to recover with his family.
