Shreyas Iyer Injury - (Source: AP)
Punjab Kings started their IPL 2026 campaign on a high after the Shreyas Iyer-led side beat Gujarat Titans by three wickets win. It was far from a perfect game for the last year's finalists as the Shubman Gill-led side nearly snatched a win out of the jaws of defeat.
Talking about the match, GT, batting first, put 162 runs on the board. In reply, the Kings were on course of a big win but collapsed in the middle. PBKS were 110/2 after 12 overs but lost four wickets for next eight runs, bringing GT back in the hunt. Eventually, Cooper Connolly's effort sealed the win for Punjab.
Shreyas Iyer's Injury Brings Gujarat Titans Back In The Game
Notably, on the 5th ball of the 12th over, Cooper Connolly hit a bullet-like shot down the ground that hit Shreyas Iyer on the wrist. The Punjab Kings' skipper was in immense pain and the physios quickly rushed to check the right-handed batter.
Iyer struggled to get going and eventually threw his wicket away on the first ball of Prasidh Krishna's over. The extend of Shreyas' injury was not known, but his hand was heavily taped when he walked out of the dug-out after the match got over.

The fans were concerned for Shreyas Iyer as he was not even shaking hands with his injured wrist. There were chatters that the PBKS captain might skip a few games or miss the next match as a precaution.
Meanwhile, during the post-match celebration, the skipper himself shed light on his injury and the response might not go well with PBKS fans.
Shreyas Iyer Provides Update On His Injury
During the post-match presentation, Iyer revealed that his hand is alright, but still he does not want to assume anything and he hopes for everything to come out normal, hinting at possible scans that he might undergo after leaving the stadium.
Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings Captain): [On his injury to his hand] I would say it is nice. It is the same as it was before. Don't want to jinx it, hopefully, everything will come out all right.
Notably, Iyer also added that he focused on icing his hand when he returned to the dug-out, which is why he couldn't focus enough on the game, pointing out at the time when PBKS lost quick wickets.
To sum it up in nutshell, Shreyas Iyer isn't fully fit and the skipper too didn't commit his availability for the next game when PBKS visit Chepauk to face CSK on April 3. Talking about Iyer's form, the right-handed batter scored 18 (11) and failed to get going. He would not want to miss the upcoming game because this time around PBKS have a solid chance.
