India's disappointing performance has reportedly led to uncertainty within the team's support staff. After suffering a 4-0 series defeat against England, following an earlier 2-0 loss to Ireland, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to review the team’s performance and coaching setup.

Recent reports suggest that two of head coach Gautam Gambhir's trusted members of the support staff, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fast-bowling coach Morne Morkel, are considering leaving their roles after the ongoing England tour.

BCCI To Hold Talks As Gautam Gambhir's Trusted Coaches Consider Exit

It is important to mention that Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel joined Team India when Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach in 2024.

Both were personally chosen by Gautam Gambhir to strengthen India's coaching group.

"Doeschate isn’t very sure of continuing with this job. He has conveyed his problems with travelling with the team around the year. Morkel is still weighing his options. The board is discussing the matter with the two coaches and will try to see if things can be sorted out," a BCCI source said as reported by Times of India.

Why Ryan ten Doeschate And Morne Morkel Do Not Want To Continue With Team India?

According to reports (Times of India), Ryan ten Doeschate is unwilling to continue due to the demanding travel schedule that comes with his job. It is also believed that he is in discussions with an IPL franchise about a possible coaching role.

Meanwhile, Morne Morkel has not made a final decision but is said to be carefully considering his options before his contract ends after the ODI series.

India will next travel to Zimbabwe in July 2026 for a three-match T20I series. The first match will be held on July 23, followed by the second T20I on July 25, while the third and final match will be played on July 26.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, will not travel with the team for the Zimbabwe tour. In his absence, VVS Laxman is expected to take charge of the Indian team during the tour.

Will BCCI Appoint New Coach For India Tour of Sri Lanka 2026?

It is vital to note that, according to the same report, the BCCI is in discussion with both the coaches about their thought process and future with the Indian setup led by Gautam Gambhir.

If either of the coaches (Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel) decides to step away, the board will have to act quickly ahead of India's busy cricket schedule.

The same reports also suggest that if Morne Morkel does not want to continue, the BCCI might send Lakshmipathy Balaji for the India tour of Sri Lanka 2026. He was recently appointed as the fast-bowling coach at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence.

The much-awaited India tour of Sri Lanka 2026 will consist of a two-Test series. The first Test match will start on August 15 at Galle, and the second match will take place from August 23 to 27 at Colombo.

Earlier reports also suggested that India's fielding coach T. Dilip’s future also remains under review.
