On Sunday, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had the opportunity to smash the fastest List A century by an Indian. In fact, he was on the cusp of becoming the fastest List A centurion across formats, only to break the hearts of many a few moments later.

It only took 11 balls for Sooryavanshi to get to a superb half-century during the Tri-Nation series final between India A and Sri Lanka A. For context, even Yuvraj Singh, who holds the record for the fastest T20I half-century, took 12 balls to reach there.

After that, within the blink of an eye, Sooryavanshi raced to 94 off 28 balls, which had eight sixes and 10 fours. Then, he fell to Sahan Arachchige, resulting in him missing out on a famous three-digit score.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, who used to play for Delhi Capitals, smashed the fastest List A century ever. Among Indians, Sakibul Gani and Ishan Kishan were the leaders in this chart, taking 32 and 33 balls respectively for their hundreds. Sooryavanshi, unfortunately, could not even get there.

India A versus Sri Lanka A turned ugly a few days ago in the same Tri-Nation series. The focus, at that point, was on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. However, it appears that every wrong thing has been put to bed after the 15-year-old's exploits in Dambulla.

Niroshan Dickwella, who was once a regular in Sri Lanka’s senior set-up, was behind the stumps when Sooryavanshi took everyone to the cleaners. Moments after his wicket, he walked towards him and gave a pat on the back.

It was well-deserved for Sooryavanshi, who made cricket look like football during IPL 2026 for Rajasthan Royals, but failed to live up to his lofty expectations until Sunday.
