On Saturday, MLC’s defending champions, MI New York, started their MLC campaign. It was not the best of starts, as the Nicholas Pooran-led side suffered a 30-run defeat against Washington Freedom. The only positive for MI New York was Kieron Pollard, who slammed his 2nd T20 hundred.

In a high-scoring game, Washington, batting first, put a whopping 245 runs on the board, riding high on Mitchell Owen’s 155-run knock. In reply, MI only managed to put 215 runs on the board. Kieron Pollard was the star with the bat and slammed a 56-ball century.

Kieron Pollard Brings Up 2nd T20 Hundred

Notably, the 39-year-old has been playing T20 cricket since 2006, and it took him a good 20 years to bring up his 2nd T20 hundred. Pollard’s knock featured 11 fours and four centuries.

Talking about Pollard’s T20 career, the right-handed batter has featured for over 15 teams across the globe and has 67 fifties to his name. With the century, Pollard also brought up a special feat as he went past Chris Gayle to become the leading run-getter in T20 history.

Kieron Pollard Becomes T20 Cricket's Leading Run Scorer

With the special knock, Chris Gayle has now been displaced as the leading run-getter in T20 history. Pollard now has 14,582 runs, 20 more than Gayle, who held the record for the longest time with 14,562 runs. Shedding light on the MI legend, he achieved the feat in his 653rd T20 innings.

Pollard, in 653 innings, has 14582 runs, averaging 32 with the bat and a strike-rate of 152. Here is the complete list of leading run-getter in T20 history.

Virat Kohli, Jos Buttler Eyes Pollard's Prestigious Record

Notably, Chris Gayle is not actively taking part in any T20 cricket across the globe. Hence, he is likely to drop further in the list. Now, interestingly, Kieron Pollard is also threatened by Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler who are too close to breaking his record.

At this time, Pollard only features in MLC, ILT20, and CPL. However, the other two cricketers are playing the IPL, which offers them the chance to collect 600-700 runs in an season.

If we look at the table, then Virat Kohli is less than 400 runs away, while Buttler needs 213 runs to break Kieron Pollard's record. Hence, it is likely that by the end of IPL 2027, we might see either Jos Buttler or Virat Kohli as the new leading run-getter in T20 history.
