In a groundbreaking development, Yuvraj Singh will have his first-ever stint in a coaching capacity for any level of cricket. And it could not be on the bigger stage than the Indian Premier League (IPL) to begin his journey, and the team for which he will make his debut is Delhi Capitals.
As reported by The Times of India (TOI), Yuvraj will have a place in the Delhi Capitals camp for IPL 2027. With JSW Group taking control of Delhi Capitals for the next two years, Sourav Ganguly, DC’s support staff lead, decided to bring in one of his most trusted soldiers from his cricketing days to his side when the mega tournament happens next year.
Yuvraj Singh Back In IPL, Again
Over the years, Yuvraj Singh played for six IPL teams: Punjab Kings (then known as Kings XI Punjab), Pune Warriors India (PWI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Mumbai Indians (MI), as well as Delhi Capitals (DC). For him, the DC season was only once, during IPL 2015.
Back then, Yuvraj made 248 runs at an average of 19.07, and to make matters worse, the strike rate in that season for India’s arguably the greatest match-winner at the highest stage was 118.09.
"Who wouldn't want a Yuvraj Singh in the dugout? Many of his former teammates, including Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag, have had coaching stints in the IPL. Yuvraj may be a little late to the party, but he has spent considerable time working with youngsters and understanding the demands of the role," a well-placed source told TOI, confirming his Delhi Capitals appointment.

However, it remains to be seen what Yuvraj’s role will be with Delhi Capitals. Nevertheless, as Kevin Pietersen did in DC as a mentor for IPL 2025, there is a good chance that he will have the same designation.
This will be the first time Yuvraj will be seen in action during the IPL since 2019, when he last played in the competition for Mumbai Indians (MI).
Yuvraj Singh's Career After Playing Cricket So Far
Yuvraj is now 44 years old. On June 10, 2019, he decided to retire from both international cricket and IPL after indisputably becoming India’s best all-rounder of the generation.
Notably, it was Sourav Ganguly who gave him a long rope during his early days for India, and Yuvraj did not look back from there. Now, for his second innings in a career around cricket, he will be working alongside Ganguly once again.
Let’s not forget that Yuvraj has worked closely with many current Indian superstars who have the potential to become icons in the coming years. Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma are the most popular among them, and Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Abdul Samad are the others who took Yuvraj’s mentorship.
