In an important update, New Zealand Cricket has officially revealed its 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 12, and all teams will be aiming to deliver strong performances.

Notably, Amelia Kerr will captain the New Zealand side in this tournament. Along with her, experienced players such as Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, and Brooke Halliday have also been included in the squad.

At the same time, it is important to note that this tournament will mark the final international appearance for Suzie Bates, Lea Tahuhu, and Sophie Devine

After many years of dedicated service to New Zealand cricket, these players are set to retire following the competition. Hence, this World Cup will be an emotional and significant event for both the players and fans.

New faces included in New Zealand T20 World Cup squad

Meanwhile, the squad also includes Bree Illing and Polly Inglis. Although both players have previously participated in the ODI World Cup, this will be their first time playing in a T20 World Cup. Consequently, they will be looking to make a strong impression.

In addition, Amelia Kerr, who performed exceptionally well in the T20 World Cup 2024, will aim to continue her excellent form.

Moreover, the team has a good combination of experienced players and young talent. On one hand, veterans like Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine will be playing in their 10th T20 World Cup, bringing valuable experience.

On the other hand, newcomers such as Nensi Patel and Izzy Sharp will be participating in their first ICC tournament.

Notably, Nensi Patel has been performing consistently in domestic cricket. As a result, she earned her T20I debut earlier this year against Zimbabwe, where she impressed by taking three wickets for just eight runs in her second match.

Similarly, 21-year-old Izzy Sharp, the youngest member of the squad, will make her senior World Cup debut. Notably, she had previously captained New Zealand in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023.

However, the team will miss Eden Carson, their first-choice spinner, who has been ruled out due to a long-term elbow injury.

New Zealand coach congratulates selected players

Following the squad announcement, head coach Ben Sawyer shared his thoughts and congratulated the selected players.

“Congratulations to all players selected. Any time you’re chosen to represent your country on the world stage it’s an honour, but World Cups hold an elevated level of importance, and I’m certain everyone can’t wait to get on the plane,” Sawyer was quoted as saying by ICC.

“It’s going to be an extra special time, it’s going to be an extra special time for Izzy and Nensi with it being their first World Cup. They’ve comfortably taken to international cricket this summer and should both have confidence heading into this next challenge,” he added.
