Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 29 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at Wankhede Stadium.
Following a resurgence, SRH sit third in the IPL 2026 points table with five wins from eight matches. Despite a slightly inconsistent start, they have gained momentum with four consecutive victories. They will aim to maintain this form and strengthen their position in the top four.
Meanwhile, the Hardik Pandya-led MI are struggling so far in the season, leaving their playoff qualification in doubt. The five-time champions are placed ninth on the table with just two wins from seven matches. They will be eager to bounce back in front of their home crowd and secure their third win of the season.
Mumbai Indians need a massive comeback, likely requiring 5-6 wins from their remaining 7 matches to reach 14-16 points. Due to a poor net run rate (-0.736), MI needs to win big, as 14 points might not guarantee a playoff spot.
Thus, the fitness of their most experienced batter, Rohit Sharma, remains a concern ahead of MI vs SRH.
What happened to Rohit Sharma?
Rohit Sharma's IPL 2026 season was halted abruptly when he suffered a hamstring injury in MI's game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 12.
The injury forced Rohit to miss games against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT), as well as the highly anticipated 'El Clásico' against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Rohit's absence at the top has led Mumbai Indians to experiment with different opening combinations. Quinton de Kock initially replaced Rohit and slammed a valiant 112. However, in the following game, Rohit's customary opening partner, Ryan Rickelton, was dropped.
Rickelton's spot has been taken by 22-year-old Danish Malewar in MI's last two games, but it hasn't worked out for the five-time IPL champions. Malewar has managed just 2 runs.
At the time of his injury, Rohit was his side's highest run-scorer. Thus, Rohit's return would undoubtedly be a huge boost to an MI side that finds itself ninth in the points table, with just two wins from seven games.
