The situation around Delhi Capitals has taken a dramatic turn, and head coach Hemang Badani is now at the center of criticism. This comes at a time when the team is struggling in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), and their performance has raised several concerns.
At present, Delhi Capitals are placed seventh on the IPL points table. As a result, pressure has been building on the team management and especially on Badani.
Delhi Capitals struggle in IPL 2026
The side, led by Axar Patel, has faced consecutive defeats. Moreover, one of the most shocking moments came when they were bowled out for just 75 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday.
Following that, RCB chased the target in under seven overs and won the match by nine wickets. Therefore, this became the lowest total of the ongoing season and added to the team’s troubles.
In addition, this heavy defeat took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, which made the loss even more disappointing for the home side. Consequently, criticism towards the Delhi Capitals intensified.
Delhi Capitals coach questions Stephen Fleming’s achievements
Earlier, Hemang Badani had made comments about Stephen Fleming, who is the head coach of Chennai Super Kings. He questioned Fleming’s achievements outside the IPL and suggested that the team’s success was mainly due to MS Dhoni.
"If Fleming is such a big coach, why hasn't he won anywhere else apart from the IPL?" Badani had asked, pointing to Fleming's stints in the SA20, The Hundred, and the Big Bash League. He went as far as to say, “CSK are winning because of Dhoni. Dhoni is the kingpin... if someone says Fleming is a good coach, I won't agree to it,” Badani had said in an interview with Yo Mahesh.
These remarks, however, have now come back into focus, especially as Delhi Capitals continue to struggle.
Srikkanth slams Hemang Badani for his remarks on CSK head coach
Meanwhile, former India cricketer and ex-BCCI selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth strongly reacted to Badani’s comments. He expressed his disappointment and advised Badani to be more careful with his words. Furthermore, he emphasized that one should focus on personal responsibilities first.
"On top of all this, Hemang Badani went after Stephen Fleming. Hey Hemang. First, take care of yourself before talking about others. I have always said this: 'in life, don't talk too much'. He spoke too much. Now, he has to shut up and watch stuff happening," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

He also questioned Badani’s track record and asked what significant accomplishments he has made so far.
“Everybody is bringing this up and slamming him. Why talk about others? You should have been mindful of your job. Who are you to say Stephen Fleming won only because of MS Dhoni? What have you done? Anything special? Nothing,” he added.
Looking at the bigger picture, Badani was appointed as head coach before IPL 2025. During his first season, the team finished fifth. However, they missed the playoffs after a sudden drop in form. Similarly, this season is showing a familiar pattern, with inconsistent performances and growing pressure.
Delhi Capitals playoff chances hang by a thread
At this stage, Delhi Capitals need to win at least five of their remaining six matches to stay in contention for the playoffs. Therefore, the upcoming games are important for the team’s future in the tournament. Their next IPL 2026 match is against Rajasthan Royals on Friday, May 1, which will be another important test.
