The Arun Jaitley Stadium saw a dramatic and surprising match during the Indian Premier League 2026 on April 27. The game between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) turned into a one-sided contest very early.

To begin with, RCB captain Rajat Patidar decided to bowl first. This decision worked perfectly as Delhi lost wickets quickly. In the first four overs, Delhi managed to score only 8 runs and lost 6 wickets. This became one of the worst starts ever seen in IPL history. The situation looked very serious, and many believed Delhi might break the record for the lowest team total.

Delhi Capitals struggle against RCB

At that moment, Delhi fans were tense. The lowest score record in IPL history is 49, which still belongs to RCB. As Delhi struggled, fans feared their team might go below that number. As a result, an emergency change was made, and Abhishek Porel was brought in early as an Impact Player to stabilise the innings.

As the innings continued, Delhi slowly added runs. Notabl, when the team crossed the 50-run mark in the 11th over, the mood in the stadium changed completely.

Delhi Capitals fans mock RCB

Fans felt relieved, and at the same time, they started teasing RCB. In a video that soon went viral online, large sections of the crowd were seen chanting “49, 49”. Notably, this chant was not random, as it directly pointed toward Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s infamous record.

This famous record goes back to 2017 when RCB were bowled out for just 49 runs by Kolkata Knight Riders. Since then, the number 49 has become a popular joke among cricket fans. Every time a team collapses early, people start talking about this record again.

Even though Delhi Capitals crossed 50, their performance remained poor. The team was all out for 75 runs in 16.3 overs, which is still one of their lowest totals in IPL history. Notably, Abhishek Porel scored 30 runs, and David Miller added 19 runs. Apart from these two players, no one could contribute much.

RCB thrash DC by 9 wickets

RCB bowlers played an important role in this collapse. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood took early wickets and put Delhi under pressure. Later, a small partnership between Porel and Miller gave some hope. Another short partnership involving Kyle Jamieson helped the team reach 75.

Meanwhile, RCB chased the target easily. They completed the chase in just 6.3 overs and won the match by 9 wickets.

It is important to note that Delhi Capitals’ position in the tournament has become difficult. They have lost five out of eight matches and are currently placed seventh on the points table.

Notably, the team now needs to win most of their remaining matches. In addition, they must improve their net run rate to stay in the competition.
