The Netherlands Women’s side is all set to go to their maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup next month in England and Wales, having secured their historic qualification via Global Qualifiers earlier this year in Nepal.
It is going to be a 12-team tournament, and the Dutch Women were one of the four teams who took the longer route to qualify for the competition alongside Bangladesh, Ireland and Scotland. As they step onto the T20 mega event, they have unveiled their squad that will take on Group 1, starting June 12.
Netherlands Women are raring to feature in the first-ever T20 World Cup
The Women in Orange sealed their qualification for the tournament with three wins in three matches of the Super Six of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers, led by captain Babette de Leede. The squad consists of a blend of youth and experience, as the Dutch social media platforms wrote in their official release.
“We are super excited for our first-ever appearance in the ICC T20 World Cup. It will be a great opportunity to compete with the best teams in the world, and to show the talent that we have in the Netherlands on the big stage. Because the T20 World Cup is played close to our home, in England, we expect a big orange crowd and a lot of support,” said captain de Leede.
"It will be an experience of a lifetime, not just for us as a team, but also for our families, friends, and everyone who has Dutch women’s cricket at heart,” she added.
“The Netherlands have selected a World Cup Squad which blends youth and experience in a squad which has performed consistently well during ICC World Cup Qualifying Tournaments and the ICC Emerging Nations Tournament in the past twelve months.”
“The players are looking forward to an exciting group and the opportunity to compete with the top ICC nations,” said coach Neil MacRae.
