In a significant development, the BCCI selection committee announced the India T20 World Cup squad on Saturday, May 2.
The Women's T20 World Cup commences on June 12, with England taking on Sri Lanka in the first match of the competition.
The marquee tournament comprises 33 matches, including three knockout fixtures. These games will be conducted across seven venues- Edgbaston, Old Trafford, The Rose Bowl, Headingley, Bristol, Lord's and Kennington Oval.
Talking about India, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team is placed in Group A and will cross swords against arch-rivals Pakistan in their tournament opener.
As the women's team gears up for the showpiece event, the BCCI, on Saturday, confirmed the India T20 World Cup squad. The same team has been picked for the England tour, where India women will face the home side in three T20I matches.
Harmanpreet Kaur to lead; Smriti Mandhana forms backbone of India batting unit
Veteran cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur has been appointed as the captain of the team in the India T20 World Cup squad. The seasoned campaigner will form the core of the Indian batting unit alongside the experienced trio of Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues.
Mandhana is known for her consistency in the shortest format. In 163 T20I matches, the stylish southpaw has amassed 4293 runs, including one century and 33 fifties at an average of 30.2 and a strike rate of 124.7.

On the other hand, Shafali Verma will play the aggressor's role and help India get off to a flying start in the powerplay with scintillating stroke play.
The inclusion of Shafali Verma in the India T20 World Cup squad meant Pratika Rawal had to miss out on selection. Despite performing admirably in ODIs, Rawal hasn't played a single T20I in her brief career so far.

The Indian middle-order will be led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who has been a proven match-winner for the side. Jemimah Rodrigues will play a significant role, having showcased her mettle in the shortest format.
Destructive wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh is set to perform the finisher's role, while Yastika Bhatia has made it into the India T20 World Cup squad as her backup.
Meanwhile, batting sensation Bharti Fulmali has earned a well-deserved World Cup call-up, having exhibited her power-hitting skills in the WPL 2026. She pipped Harleen Deol in the race, as the BCCI selection committee included the latter in the India Test squad against England.
Renuka Thakur to lead India's bowling attack
Talking about the Indian pace department, the experienced Renuka Singh Thakur will once again lead the pack.
Deepti Sharma is expected to emerge as India's most valuable player in the Women's T20 World Cup, as she has been the linchpin of the Indian lineup as a spin bowling allrounder.
Deepti will be assisted by Sree Charani, Shreyanka Patil and Radha Yadav, with Arundhati Reddy and Kranti Goud leading the pace battery along with Renuka Thakur.
