Pakistan Super League season 11 is just days away, and the league, led by Mohsin Naqvi, has been hit by a significant jolt. They could see yet another overseas player pulling out of the tournament, putting the league under threat of a shutdown.

Mohsin Naqvi and co. had recently faced a massive embarrassment after Blessing Muzarabani was swooped in by the IPL giants Kolkata Knight Riders whilst being contracted in the PSL. However, this time around, the situation is different: a New Zealand star batter has been injured, and the recovery time remains unknown.

PSL faces a crisis after Bevon Jacobs’ injury

In mid-February, the PSL 11 player auction took place, and Bevon Jacobs was bought by the Quetta Gladiators for PKR 60 lakh as one of their five overseas stars. The Kiwi batter was previously also a part of the Mumbai Indians squad in 2025; however, due to a stacked squad, he was released and subsequently went unauctioned due to the lack of interest.

After being contracted with the Gladiators, the top-order batter could have lit up the PSL on fire. But on Sunday evening in Mount Maunganui, as the Blackcaps took on South Africa in their first T20I after the T20 World Cup final loss, Jacobs sustained a knee injury.

The incident occurred in the fag-end of the match, when South Africa only needed 9 runs to win, and a Connor Esterhuizen hit went air-borne off Kyle Jamieson at 16.2. Despite a free hit, Bevon Jacobs went for the catch and slipped on the field, twisting his knee to add worries to Mohsin Naqvi and Quetta Gladiators.

As announced by the New Zealand team, Jacobs' return will be assessed with due medical procedures, but he remains unlikely to play the upcoming games against the Proteas.

Will Quetta Gladitors replace Bevon Jacobs?

With just over 10 days remaining until the start of the PSL 11 season, the Gladiators have to think on their feet about whether they will wait for Jacobs to return to full fitness or rope in a replacement.

Mohsin Naqvi’s approval will also be required to make any changes in the squad, and there has been no official word from the Gladiators or Mohsin Naqvi’s PCB yet. However, if they want to get in a replacement, the likes of Colin Munro, Kyle Mayers, George Munsey, Kusal Mendis, among others, will be the options at their disposal at the last minute.

Injury threats ahead of PSL 11

In the recent ODI between Pakistan and Bangladesh, the recently swooped in Mustafizur Rahman of Lahore Qalandars also joined the list of players doubtful for the PSL start. Similar to Jacobs, he also suffered a knee injury after getting a PKR 6.44 crore contract.

After Auqib Javed revealed Babar Azam’s fitness issues, ruling him out of the Bangladesh ODIs, Zaman Khan and Hussain Talat were the latest names suffering from shoulder injuries.

Mohsin Naqvi and the board have notably decided to collide the PSL 11 season with the IPL as they did in 2025, as it begins from March 26 with two new teams added to the league. The 44-match tournament will end on May 3, with the final set to be played in Lahore.
