Troubles continue to mount for the upcoming PSL 2026 season as yet another overseas star has been ruled out of the tournament. Adding to their woes, the league has been constantly grappling with player withdrawals caused by late commitments with IPL 2026 or with untimely injuries in the past few weeks.

On a trail of a topsy-turvy phase for the PSL in terms of availability of overseas players, explosive Australian batter Max Bryant has been reportedly ruled out of the season.

Max Bryant set to miss PSL 2026 for Islamabad United

Australian cricketer Max Bryant has been reportedly ruled out of the PSL 2026 season owing to an injury. The cricketer was picked by the Islamabad United franchise last month during the PSL 2026 auction.

The explosive 27-year-old Brisbane Heat batter was acquired for a sum of PKR 1.95 crores.

He made his PSL debut last year during the 2025 edition of the tournament, turning up for the Peshawar Zalmi franchise. In five matches of the league, he managed to aggregate just 49 runs at a dismal average of 16.33.

However, in the recently concluded BBL 2025-26 season in Australia, Max Bryant bashed 222 runs in 10 innings at an explosive strike rate of 152.05 and with a healthy average of 31.71.

As of now, no official confirmation or detailed statement has been released by the franchise or the PCB regarding the extent of his injury or a potential replacement.

Injuries, late pull outs plague PSL 2026

Max Bryant’s injury and his exclusion from PSL 2026 marks the latest in a series of injury setbacks, further depleting the tournament’s overseas player pool. Moreover, several players have also left their respective PSL franchises to join IPL teams, prominently as replacements.

Earlier this month, South Africa fast bowler Ottniel Baartman kicked aside his Hyderabad Kingsmen contract to reportedly join the CSK as a replacement for Nathan Ellis. Spencer Johnson and Blessing Muzarabani also stepped away from their respective PSL commitments.

On March 22, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka moved to the Rajasthan Royals, thus making way from the Lahore Qalandars franchise for PSL 2026. This trend underlines the growing scheduling clash and the PSL’s struggle to retain top overseas talent amid competing leagues.

PSL 2026 schedule and venues shut down

In another major blow for the PCB, the board announced that the PSL 2026 season will be played behind closed doors owing to the fuel crisis in the country. Moreover, the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB also confirmed that the entire season will be played in only two venues to avoid excessive travel, namely at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and at the National Stadium in Karachi.

While speaking at a press conference, Mohsin Naqvi said “If we had postponed the PSL, there would be no window later to hold it. We have prepared a new schedule that minimises team movements”

The PCB has now confirmed that the board will be making the refunds to the fans who had purchased PSL tickets.
