Mohsin Naqvi’s Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has always been at odds with India’s Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), especially since it refused to come to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions.
In addition to the same, the Indian team refused to take the Asia Cup 2025 winners’ trophy from the hands of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and he left the podium with the Asia Cup trophy without handing it to Indian players.
Mohsin Naqvi backed Pakistani officials' sweep of ACC elections in Thailand
And now Mohsin Naqvi has many more things to rejoice about, as three of the Pakistan-backed officials defeated the India-backed officials to secure key positions in the Asian Cricket Council. This has made Pakistan’s position stronger in the ACC over India.
Three director positions on the ACC Board were up for election during the ACC Annual General Meeting in Bangkok. In a fiercely contested election, the panels supported by India and Pakistan squared off, with the nominees supported by Pakistan winning.
Sources claim that officials from Qatar, Singapore, and the Maldives were part of the Pakistan-backed group headed by ACC President Mohsin Naqvi. The available seats were won by all three contenders. The result gives Pakistan an important voice within the regional cricket body as the ACC prepares for several major tournaments and administrative decisions.

The first time Pakistan won all three seats on the ACC panel
A panel supported by Pakistan has gained all three board seats for the first time since the ACC's founding. Rajeev Shukla represented India during the meeting. The outcome is regarded as a noteworthy accomplishment for Naqvi and an indication of Pakistan's increasing clout in the Asian Cricket Council.
Salman Naseer, a board member of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was scheduled to attend the meeting, which was presided over by ACC President Mohsin Naqvi.
At a time when ties between the two cricket boards are still being constantly monitored, Pakistan views the election outcome as a significant administrative victory. Pakistan's representation in the ACC is strengthened by obtaining all three director seats supported by its panel, which may increase its power in upcoming talks.
Asia Cup 2027 discussions
The ACC's annual conference covered a number of other significant topics in addition to the elections. Sylhet, Mirpur, and Chattogram were suggested as locations for the Asia Cup 2027, which will take place in Bangladesh next year. The final schedule and venue arrangements are expected to be settled through further consultations.
Pakistan and India continue to be among the tournament's greatest draws, so the 2027 Asia Cup is expected to garner a lot of attention throughout the cricketing area. Fans and broadcasters have historically shown a great deal of interest in their matches; therefore, venue preparation and tournament logistics are particularly crucial.
Financial and administrative issues were also discussed at the Bangkok summit. While preparations for the Women's Asia Cup in Dubai were examined, the ACC budget was authorized.
Therefore, Pakistan received more than just standard administrative decisions from the most recent ACC meeting. Pakistan was at the center of several significant changes influencing the future of Asian cricket as a result of the election's success and talks about the upcoming Asia Cup and women's competition.
