To dismiss North Zone’s Abdul Samad, Deshpande broke through the defense with a gem of a delivery shortly after the lunch break on Day 1 on Sunday, August 23.

Tushar Deshpande produced an unplayable in-swinging delivery to knock over North Zone’s middle-order batter Abdul Samad. Bowling the 40th over of the innings, Deshpande deceived Samad with a bouncer before sending down a fuller bowl to rattle Samad’s off-stump.

Tushar Deshpande finds renewed form after timid IPL 2026
The Mumbai fast bowler recently underwent a forgettable IPL 2026 season for the Rajasthan Royals franchise. In seven matches of the tournament, the speedster managed to scalp just four wickets at an expensive bowling average of 68.75. Moreover, Deshpande leaked runs at nearly 12 runs an over throughout his dismal IPL run this year.
Since the conclusion of the IPL 2026 season, the 31-year-old has found immense success. In the recently-concluded Mumbai T20 2026 season in Mumbai, Tushar Deshpande collected 12 wickets in just seven innings at an impressive bowling average of 13.67.
He even finished the season as its highest wicket-taker for the title-winning MSC Maratha Royals team. The fast bowler picked up two important wickets on the day of the final to claim figures of 2-33.
Even in the opening match of the Duleep Trophy 2026 season for the West Zone cricket team, Tushar Deshpande dismissed opener Qamran Iqbal, and IPL stars Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad to wreck North Zone’s top-order on Day 1 itself.
Tushar Deshpande fights on for a national recall
It is worth noting that Deshpande has previously played international cricket for Team India. He was picked in the Indian squad following his domestic success, back in July 2024 for India’s T20I tour of Zimbabwe.
However, in the five-match series, the speedster received just two opportunities in the Indian playing XI, picking up two wickets in both innings combined at a bowling average of 27.50. Since returning from Zimbabwe, the cricketer has not been considered for international selection.
With Deshpande rediscovering his rhythm across domestic cricket, his latest Duleep Trophy spell could further strengthen his case for a national recall. The 31-year-old will hope to maintain his impressive form and force his way back into India’s plans with consistent performances.
