In a major development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), led by Mohsin Naqvi, has taken disciplinary action against Mohammad Amir and Faheem Ashraf following an on-field argument. The incident took place during a PSL 2026 match between Rawalpindiz and Islamabad United on Thursday, April 23.

The confrontation happened in the 17th over of the game at the National Stadium in Karachi. At that moment, Mohammad Amir bowled a short delivery to Faheem Ashraf.

Although Faheem tried to guide the ball for a boundary, he only managed a slight edge, which was caught by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan. As a result, the umpire declared him out, reducing Islamabad to 99/7.

Argument between Mohammad Amir and Faheem Ashraf escalates quickly

However, instead of walking off calmly, Faheem Ashraf appeared hesitant. Consequently, Amir reacted aggressively and told him to leave the field. This sparked a verbal exchange between the two players. Faheem, clearly upset, responded with harsh words and even pointed his bat toward Mohammad Amir.

As tensions rose, the situation nearly turned physical. Faheem Ashraf walked toward Amir in anger, raising his bat in frustration. Fortunately, teammates like Shan Masood and Asif Afridi quickly stepped in. They managed to separate the players and prevent the situation from getting worse.

Mohsin Naqvi's PCB takes strict action

Since the argument was clearly visible, the PCB led by Mohsin Naqvi decided to act promptly. Both Amir and Faheem were fined 10 percent of their match fees for breaching the PSL Code of Conduct.

Specifically, Mohammad Amir was found guilty under Article 2.5. This rule relates to using inappropriate language or gestures that may provoke a batter after dismissal. On the other hand, Faheem was charged under Article 2.21, which deals with actions that bring the game into disrepute.

Importantly, both players accepted their mistakes. They admitted the charges presented by the on-field umpires and agreed to the penalties given by match referee Sir Richard Richardson.

Meanwhile, focusing on the match itself, Islamabad United struggled after being sent in to bat. Notably, they suffered an early collapse and were eventually bowled out for 137 runs. Devon Conway was the top scorer with 40 runs off 33 balls. Additionally, Chris Green contributed a quick 29 runs, helping the team reach a somewhat competitive total.

In contrast, Mohammad Amir performed well with the ball, taking 2 wickets for just 21 runs in his four overs. Moreover, Saad Masood and Diaan Forrester also picked up two wickets each, ensuring Islamabad stayed below 150.

Rawalpindiz end losing streak in PSL 2026

After that, Rawalpindiz successfully chased down the target in 18.1 overs, winning the match by six wickets. Notably, this victory was particularly important because it ended their long losing streak of eight matches.

However, despite the win, Rawalpindiz still remains at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate of -1.330. Looking ahead, they will play their final PSL 2026 league-stage match against Hyderabad Kingsmen on Sunday, April 26.
