Mohammad Amir has stood firm on his Abhishek Sharma remarks and criticism, that have been perceived as an insult by a number of Indian cricket fans. Earlier this week, the former Pakistan fast bowler had claimed that the Indian opener is more of a slogger who holds a “high chance” of failure.

It is worth noting that Abhishek Sharma is scheduled to go up against the Pakistan team this Sunday, February 15 in match number 27 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Mohammad Amir says Abhishek Sharma “not tested yet”

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has doubled down on his Abhishek Sharma remarks after calling him a “slogger” and questioning his technique.

After coping much abuse and online trolling from Indian cricket fans, Amir echoed his earlier sentiments by stating that the attacking Indian opener is indeed a slogger who cannot play the ball across the line. The cricket expert also added that Abhishek Sharma has been only playing on shorter boundaries with excellent batting surfaces and he has not been tested yet on the big stage.

While appearing on a Pakistan sports show, Mohammad Amir said “I again say, he is a slogger. What should I say about a player who can't play the ball along the line? Is he proper batsman? You're playing on short boundary with flat pitch. You haven't been tested yet.”

Abhishek Sharma on a generational run, but recent form a concern

Contrary to Mohammad Amir’s claims, Abhishek Sharma has found success on longer boundaries with sporting surfaces. Back in October and November last year, the left-handed opener won the ‘Player of the Series’ award in India’s five-match T20I series in Australia. The cricketer aggregated 163 in five innings of the series at a splendid average of 40.75 and with a staggering strike rate of 161.38.

Even in the preceding Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, Abhishek Sharma unleashed a couple of match-winning knocks against a strong Pakistan bowling attack. After India’s narrow win in the final, the Punjab cricketer bagged the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award.

However, Abhishek’s recent form has been one of the area of concerns for the Indian team, especially in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. In his last six T20I innings overall, the 25-year-old has registered three ducks. He also missed India’s previous Group A match against Namibia owing to an illness.

As of now, it remains to be seen if Abhishek Sharma will be deemed fit to make it to India XI for their high-profile match against Pakistan.

India makes it two-in-two in T20 World Cup 2026

Team India started off its ICC T20 World Cup 2026 with two convincing wins in two games. Back on February 7, the Indian team overcame USA by 29 runs in Mumbai. Earlier this week, Suryakumar Yadav and co. trounced Namibia by 93 runs in Delhi.

Currently placed at the top of the Group A points table with a formidable NRR of 3.050, the Indian team will now face Pakistan on Sunday, February 15. The match will be hosted by the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and the action will commence from 7:00 PM IST onwards.
