Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was seen imitating presenter Mayanti Langer during a recent T20 World Cup 2026 that set social media ablaze. What seemed an innocent fun move turned into a full-blown controversy.

Gavaskar, who often engages in fun conversations even during his commentary stint, chose to mock Langer’s make-up skills. But instead, they got trolled heavily on the internet.

Sunil Gavaskar faces fans’ wrath online

In a video going viral on social media, Sunil Gavaskar was mocking Mayanti Langer for touching up her makeup. He used hand gestures to imitate Mayanti, and the duo had a good laugh about it.

Even Parthiv Patel, his fellow commentator, on the sidelines was amused to see the fun side of Gavaskar.

However, fans on social media interpreted something else. Many thought it was innocent flirting, while others categorised it as distasteful. A lot of social media users slammed Sunil Gavaskar for mocking a female presenter on the field, which they felt was inappropriate.

However, the former cricketer is yet to react to this. Neither Gavaskar nor Mayanti have issued a statement on this. Between them, it seemed an innocent act of fun.

When Sunil Gavaskar and Mayanti Langer were trolled for outfits

That being said, this isn’t the first time Gavaskar and Mayanti Langer have been the center of attention on social media. During the IPL season last year, fans spotted Gavaskar and Mayanti Langer wearing similar outfits.

It began with a few photos going viral where Mayanti wore a beige blazer dress. Sunil Gavaskar stood beside her in trousers of almost the same shade.

On another night, she turned up in bold blue. He followed with matching blue pants. The pattern repeated. Black, beige, blue. Fans noticed, and social media buzzed. Many were convinced it was planned.

Some joked that it was a long-running inside joke. Others said the production team must be behind it. Whatever the truth, it became a talking point.

Gavaskar suggest squad changes for India vs Pakistan

After India’s win against Namibia, Gavaskar pointed out that Arshdeep Singh did not complete his full quota of overs. That, he hinted, could mean a change is coming.

Gavaskar feels wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav should replace Arshdeep for the Pakistan match. Sri Lankan pitches often help spinners. India have used three spinners in the past with success.

"All our bowlers picked up wickets. Arshdeep did not complete his four overs, while Shivam Dube bowled two and Hardik completed his quota. This hints that Kuldeep Yadav could replace Arshdeep against Pakistan. Sri Lanka pitches help spinners and India have history of playing three spinners. Expect Kuldeep in the XI against Pakistan in Colombo," Gavaskar said.

Dropping a frontline pacer before such a high-pressure match would be a strong move. But Sunil Gavaskar believes Kuldeep’s variation could trouble Pakistan’s batters. If the change happens, it could be a surprise twist ahead of the tournament’s biggest rivalry.
