Pakistan have recently announced the Bangladesh ODI series squad with Shaheen Afridi as the captain and Babar Azam missing. The squad also triggered the absence of many rising young talents amid veterans like Haseebullah. Ahmed Shehzad, ex-Pakistan player now, have raised concerns on these selections while revealing a dirty truth about Misbah ul Haq.
From benching accusations to sabotaging the salary of the player, Ahmed Shehzad went ballistic on throwing severe allegations on the selectors and Misbah ul Haq on how bias and ego have ruined the selection process while ruining the future of youngsters.
Ahmed Shehzad Questions Pakistan ODI Team Selection
Speaking on a local Pakistani media channel, Shehzad questioned the logic behind the current selections, suggesting that panic decisions after defeats often lead to drastic changes in team structure rather than measured rebuilding.
According to him, the constant chopping and changing in the cricket team harms the development of young talent and disrupts stability in the national setup.
“The team that has been announced, like Rashid bhai just said, what happened to the youngsters who were there before? And what usually happens is that whenever you lose like this, you press the panic button. You change the entire staff, you discard all the players, and the replacements you bring in are not necessarily the right ones,” Shehzad said.

Shehzad Reveals Dirty Secrets Of Misbah ul Haq
Ahmed Shehzad particularly highlighted the situation of young players who have performed well in domestic and development squads but still struggle to find a consistent place in the national setup.
He claimed that some players like Usama Mir and Haseebullah Khan were sidelined despite strong performances, raising concerns about fairness and transparency in selections.
Referring to a particular case, Shehzad pointed out how Haseebullah Khan, who had performed strongly for Pakistan Shaheens, still found himself overlooked when it mattered most.
“Haseebullah goes back to play domestic cricket and gets benched there. And he thinks, “Every match matters for me because I want to play for Pakistan. I just scored runs at an average of fifty for Pakistan Shaheens. Every game is important for me, so why am I not playing?” Shehzad said.
The former opener argued that such situations create frustration among players who are trying to build their careers while representing the team at different levels.
Misbah ul Haq Accused Of Ego-Driven Decisions
Shehzad further claimed that questioning decisions within the system resulted in Haseebullah Khan having negative consequences. According to him, simply asking for clarity regarding selection or playing opportunities can be interpreted as a challenge to authority.
“So he (Khan) asked the coach about it, maybe he asked Misbah bhai (Misbah ul Haq). And maybe Misbah bhai’s ego got hurt. They might have thought, “How dare he question us?” After that, he was benched for the entire season. And the matter didn’t even stop there,” Ahmed Shehzad added.
Shehzad suggested that such an environment discourages open communication between players and management, making it difficult for young cricketers to understand where they stand in the system.
Taking the allegations further, Shehzad also raised concerns about the alleged financial treatment of the player in question, claiming that the matter went beyond simple selection issues.
“Now I would have accepted that maybe you didn’t take it personally when he asked you a question, maybe there was some other reason. But if that was the case, why did you stop his salary?” the ex-Pakistan cricketer claimed.
Ahmed Shehzad emphasised that players deserve clear answers regarding their careers, especially when they are performing well and seeking feedback on how to improve and not just simply get sabotaged with their salary.
Shehzad Questions Haseebullah's Disappearence
Shehzad further revealed how Haseebullah was made to disappear with negative feedback about him during selection meetings and reviews.
“In that selection meeting, it was said that this guy has an attitude problem and a disciplinary problem. But who are they (Misbah ul Haq and others) to decide this on their own? What is their criteria for judging someone’s discipline that they are playing with the futures of these boys? Just because someone thinks a player has an attitude problem? And this is not the only player this has happened to,” Ahmed Shehzad concluded.
This has raised several questions regarding the state of Men in Green and how selections are being made in the current days, especially after their disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup 2026.
Nevertheless, the newly announced Pakistan squad will travel to Bangladesh on March 11 for the three-match ODI series to start their white-ball journey afresh.
