In a significant development, CSK have decided to make a significant addition to their existing setup for the IPL 2026 season. The Super Kings have kicked off their preparations for the upcoming edition in a bid to bounce back in the tournament.
As MS Dhoni and his men gear up for the marquee event, an English cricketer is all set to join the five-time champions in a special role.
CSK aim to bounce back in IPL 2026
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury derailed CSK's IPL 2025 campaign, as the Super Kings finished tenth on the points table. Despite the late blitz from Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis and Urvil Patel, CSK managed four wins in fourteen matches, claiming the bottom spot.
So, as the 2026 season approaches, MS Dhoni and his troops eye redemption in the tournament. They are five-time IPL champions and would like to replicate similar success in the upcoming season, having secured the services of several impactful names in the auction.
CSK call James Foster to join as fielding coach
Former England cricketer James Foster was known for his athleticism on the field. The 45-year-old represented the English cricket team across 23 international matches, including seven Tests, eleven ODIs and five T20Is.

While Foster amassed 304 runs across three formats, his agility behind the stumps helped him rise to prominence during his playing days. The wicket-keeper exhibited remarkable glove work, accounting for 44 dismissals, including 33 catches and eleven stumpings, in his brief career.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan admitted to searching for a fielding coach and expected to get James Foster on board to boost the Super Kings for the IPL 2026 season.
"We have been looking for a fielding coach. I am hopeful he will join us," Viswanathan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
MS Dhoni behind James Foster's appointment?
As mentioned above, CSK already have a fielding coach in the form of Rajiv Kumar. So, unless they need special attention to their fielding, there's no point in appointing an additional coach for the same.
It's well known that former Indian captain and current CSK supremo MS Dhoni always prioritises ground-fielding as an effective measure to win crunch matches.
The talismanic Indian cricketer is one of the pioneers when it comes to wicket-keeping, having set the benchmark for agility and athleticism behind the stumps.
So, as James Foster gears up to join the Super Kings, it seems MS Dhoni might have had a word with the CSK management regarding their fielding, which needs some definite fine-tuning.
CSK coaching staff for IPL 2026
It's worth mentioning that former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming serves as the head coach of CSK. Meanwhile, legendary Australian cricketer and former CSK opener Mike Hussey is the Super Kings' current batting coach, with Eric Simmons performing the bowling coach's role.
Former Indian cricketer Sridharan Sriram, who has also worked with Cricket Australia, serves as CSK's assistant bowling coach. So, James Foster will be the sixth addition to the CSK coaching staff for the IPL 2026.
