In a recent development, Chennai Super Kings have officially parted ways with their batting coach, Michael Hussey. The Australian veteran, who has served the team since 2018, will be exiting the setup without any official statement from his side.

CSK, meanwhile, have acknowledged Hussey’s contributions to the side in an official social media message while also wishing him the best for his future endeavours.

The move from the Kasi Viswanathan-led management is considered to be one to overhaul the coaching setup of the team ahead of IPL 2027, with Zaheer Khan at the helm as head coach.

CSK officially confirms Mike Hussey’s exit as coach before IPL 2027

The IPL 2027 auction will be around the corner in a few weeks, and ahead of the massive event, the batting coach, Hussey, has been parted with. Reports of Mike’s exit had already surfaced in early October; however, the official social media message confirmed the veteran’s exit.

“From the very first season in 2008, you have been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings family. Your journey in Yellow has been defined not just by the runs you scored and the players you mentored, but by the dedication, humility, and unwavering commitment you brought to this franchise over the years.

Your place in our history will forever remain special, Hussmeister. Once a Super King, always a Super King,” CSK wrote on their X handle.

Notably, Hussey has been associated with CSK as a player since 2008. With only one stint with Mumbai Indians in 2014, Hussey remained committed to the franchise till 2015 before quitting the tournament.

What has CSK achieved under Hussey?

Since Hussey was appointed as the batting coach of the team back in 2018, the team has won 3 titles, in 2018, in 2021, and in 2023.

The top-to-middle batting order since his appointment has averaged 30.67 from 135 matches played at a strike rate of 137.19. Although the last three seasons of CSK have been far below their standard, till 2023, the team looked formidable under Hussey’s batting guidance.

Now, Michael Hussey has been reported to be interviewing for several other coaching roles with different franchises in the IPL itself, and he might join a team before IPL 2027 commences.
