The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) succumbed to a huge six-wicket against the Mumbai Indians in match number 47 of the IPL 2026 season in Mumbai. The outcome marked LSG’s sixth straight defeat this tournament to fall to the brink of a certain elimination from the season’s playoffs race.

With just two wins from nine matches, the Rishabh Pant-led side is still languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table, fittingly holding the worst NRR among all sides this season.

Staring at a daunting road to keep their playoff ambitions alive, here is a look at LSG’s entire scenario for making it among the top four sides of the tournament by the end of the league stage.

How can LSG qualify for IPL 2026 playoffs?

The LSG franchise, under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, has so far registered just two wins and sustained seven crushing defeats from nine matches this IPL 2026 season. Notably, the franchise started off the season with two wins from its first three games, before spiraling into a demoralizing sequence of seven consecutive defeats.

LSG’s latest unwanted losing streak has ensured that the franchise cannot afford another hiccup this season, if they truly want to stay in the playoffs race.

At the moment, their NRR of -1.076 marks the worst among all sides in the tournament by a landslide.

On a streak of six defeats and a dwindling NRR, the LSG franchise need to win each of its remaining five games this season. Even by winning all their impending fixtures, the Rishabh Pant-led side will reach a maximum of 14 points by the end of the league stage.

However, even 14 points may not guarantee qualification, with LSG likely to be heavily reliant on a significant NRR boost and favorable outcomes in other matches to sneak into the top four.

It is worth noting that ever since the IPL became a 74-match event in 2022, only one team has managed to qualify for the playoffs with a tally of 14 points, with RCB doing so back in 2024 by edging out others with a superior NRR.

Aiden Markram and captain Rishabh Pant are the only other LSG batters who have scored 200 or more runs.

LSG’s bowling department, meanwhile, has been ably helmed by pacemen Prince Yadav (13 wickets) and Mohsin Khan (10 wickets).
