Ishan Kishan lost his cousin sister

However, behind Ishan Kishan’s strong performance was a heartbreaking personal tragedy. According to a report, Kishan’s cousin sister and his brother-in-law had died in a car accident on Friday, just two days before the final match

Due to this tragic incident, Kishan’s father, Pranav Pandey, was unable to travel to Ahmedabad to watch the final. Kishan himself wanted to return home to be with his family, but the responsibility of playing in a World Cup final meant he had to stay with the team.

“Anarth ho gaya. Hum log bahut badi musibat mein hain (Something terrible has happened. We are in a very big problem),” Kishan's father told TOI.

“We are all in shock. Ishan wanted to visit us, but he couldn't return because of the final. He is absolutely distraught,” Pranav Pandey further said.

Furthermore, the report mentioned that Kishan looked quieter than usual during India’s practice sessions before the match. Normally, he is energetic and lively, but this time he appeared subdued. His batting practice was also shorter than usual.

During this time, several teammates came forward to comfort him and placed a supportive arm around his shoulder.

Later, during the post-match presentation, the 27-year-old finally spoke about the painful loss. After India’s big win over New Zealand, Kishan revealed the news during the press conference.

“To be honest, before the game, I lost my cousin sister yesterday in a car accident. I played well for her. I spoke to Hardik bhai, he said to put the team ahead. I dedicate this win to her, and today is Women's Day, so it makes it all the more special,” Kishan said.

Ishan Kishan explained that a conversation with teammate Hardik Pandya helped him stay mentally strong before playing the most important match of the tournament.

Meanwhile, after completing his half-century, his third of the tournament, Kishan lifted his bat and pointed it toward the sky. This gesture appeared to be a tribute to his late cousin sister.

In addition to his batting performance, Kishan also made two outstanding catches in the outfield. These catches helped dismiss New Zealand batters Rachin Ravindra and Tim Seifert. By the end of the tournament, Kishan finished as the fourth-highest run scorer, with 317 runs in nine innings.
