India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, rewrote the history with an unforgettable title triumph in the just concluded T20 World Cup 2026, defeating New Zealand in the final. With this historic title win, India also became the first-ever team in the tournament’s history to successfully defend the World T20 title.
Besides that, the Men in Blue became the first team to win their third World T20 title and the first to win the trophy in a home edition. The star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson won the ‘player of the tournament’ award for his iconic and match-winning performances, playing a vital role in India’s title triumph.
Meanwhile, India’s top political leaders, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, came together to celebrate India’s historic World Cup win.
Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi lead wishes after India became T20 World Cup Champions
Immediately after New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy was dismissed off Abhishek Sharma, an euphoria erupted among the Indian cricket fans. Besides, the top political leadership of India includes prominent figures like PM Narendra Modi and LoP Rahul Gandhi.
“Champions! Congratulations to the Indian team on winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup! This remarkable triumph reflects exceptional skills, determination and teamwork,” wrote PM Modi in his X-post while congratulating India for the emphatic World Cup win.
“They have shown outstanding grit throughout the tournament. This victory has filled every Indian heart with pride and joy. Well done, Team India!” he added later.
Apart from PM Modi, LoP Rahul Gandhi also congratulated India for lifting the World T20 2026 title. Furthermore, he categorically lauded Sanju Samson, who smashed three consecutive half-centuries to help India win against the West Indies, followed by the semi-final and final.

Political Leadership praises Team India for clinching record-extending title win
Apart from PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi, the other notable Indian political leaders also hailed Team India for their outstanding journey and title win in the T20 World Cup 2026. The list includes the likes of India’s President, Droupadi Murmu, Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and senior parliamentarian, Dr Shashi Tharoor.
Notably, Amit Shah was also in attendance at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to witness India’s historic win.

India outmuscle New Zealand in one-sided title clash
In the title clash of the World T20 2026, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner won the toss and asked India to bat first. The hosts went on to smash a massive total of 255 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Sanju Samson played a fiery knock of 89 runs off just 46 balls, alongside Abhishek Sharma’s 52 off 21 balls, and Ishan Kishan’s 54 off just 25 balls. While defending the target, the Indian bowling attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, completely outmuscled the Kiwi batting attack.
Eventually, India bundled out the Blackcaps at the score of just 159 runs in 19 overs. Bumrah starred with the ball, picking four wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs, alongside Axar Patel’s three wickets for 27 runs in three overs. Bumrah also won the ‘player of the match’ award for his game-changing performance.
