India enjoyed stellar success in the T20 World Cup final, as they steamrolled New Zealand in a high-voltage final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Batting first, the Men in Blue posted a mammoth total of 255 runs, courtesy of blistering half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. In response, New Zealand were bundled out for 159 runs in 19 overs, losing the game convincingly by 96 runs.
While the Indian team played fantastic cricket and outclassed their opponents in all departments, an incident that grabbed the limelight amid their splendid performance was a heated moment between Arshdeep Singh and Daryl Mitchell.
The reputed cricketers from India and New Zealand had an altercation, which was eventually pacified by Suryakumar Yadav and on-field umpire Richard Illingworth.
Arshdeep Singh's direct throw leaves Daryl Mitchell shell-shocked
The incident occurred in the eleventh over of the T20 World Cup final when Daryl Mitchell was trying to steady the ship for New Zealand alongside captain Mitchell Santner.
Chasing a monumental target of 256 runs, the BlackCaps had already lost five crucial wickets, hoping for Mitchell and Santner to bail them out of trouble.
Daryl Mitchell had an extraordinary start to the over, as he dispatched Arshdeep Singh for two consecutive sixes. The fifth delivery of the over went for a dot ball, which Mitchell played straight back to the bowler.
However, Arshdeep Singh needlessly threw the ball towards the striker's end despite Mitchell remaining well inside the popping crease. The ball struck the New Zealand batter on his right thigh, resulting in his heated altercation with the Indian speedster.

Arshdeep Singh realises his mistake, asks Suryakumar to maintain sportsmanship
While Arshdeep got a bit carried away during the game, he was quick to realise his mistake once India won the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand.
After his side's remarkable victory, skipper Suryakumar Yadav was elated and congratulated his colleagues for turning the campaign into a grand success. While the Indian skipper was busy celebrating the triumph, Arshdeep Singh noticed that he had forgotten to shake hands with his Kiwi counterparts.
The left-arm pacer, who received a lot of flak for hitting Daryl Mitchell with a wild throw, showcased sportsmanship and pulled his captain aside, reminding him of his final duties as an opponent.
Arshdeep Singh urged Suryakumar Yadav to congratulate the New Zealand team like a true champion. The Indian captain accepted his suggestion and walked towards the opponent camp for the formalities.
Arshdeep and Suryakumar's middling campaigns explained
Arshdeep and Suryakumar blew hot and cold in the T20 World Cup 2026. While the Indian team reaped rewards of Jasprit Bumrah's sheer brilliance, Arshdeep managed only nine wickets across eight innings at a modest economy of 8.47.
Meanwhile, despite scoring a match-winning fifty against the United States, Suryakumar was slammed for his inconsistency, scoring 242 runs at an underwhelming average of 30.25.
However, the sub-par outings of these two cricketers couldn't shatter India's T20 World Cup dream, as impactful performers like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Shivam Dube ensured their historic title defence on home soil.
