Amid the IPL 2026 season, the preparations for a new T20 league in India are in full swing. Recently, the first-ever player auction for the Bengal T20 League took place, where IPL stars were in great demand.
The Bengal T20 League conducted its first-ever player auction last weekend, where Howrah Warriors, Harbour Diamonds, Lux Shyam Kolkata Tigers, Murshidabad Kings & Kueens, Shrachi Rarh Tigers, Rashmi Medinipur Wizards, Servotech Siliguri Strikers, and Sobisco Smashers Malda picked their squads.
IPL players hot picks in Bengal T20 League auction
That being said, LSG spinner Shahbaz Ahmed emerged as the most expensive player of the Bengal T20 League 2026 auction after Shrachi Tribes Rarh Tigers used their Right To Match card to retain him for INR 12.20 lakh.
DC wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel followed closely as Lux Shyam Kolkata Tigers secured his services for INR 10.40 lakh after intense competition during the auction in Kolkata.
Several other notable names also attracted major bids. DC’s Mukesh Kumar was retained by Sobisco Smashers Malda for INR 9.60 lakh, while debut franchise Novus Purulia Royals made headlines by signing Sudip Kumar Gharami and Ravi Kumar for hefty sums.

India pacer Akash Deep was also retained by Servotech Siliguri Strikers for INR 3 lakh through RTM, but his participation is subject to fitness as he is currently nursing an injury.
Interestingly, 16-year-old Rohit also attracted significant attention before earning a lucrative deal worth INR 5.20 lakh with Novus Purulia Royals.
How have Shahbaz and Porel performed in IPL 2026?
So far in the IPL 2026 season, Shahbaz Ahmed has played 3 games for LSG, picking 4 wickets while also scoring 58 runs with the bat. However, Lucknow as a whole has lacked big time as they stand eliminated from the playoff race.
On the other hand, Abishek Porel was allowed to play just a single game by DC this IPL season, where he scored 30 runs.
Delhi Capitals also stand on the brink of elimination with 8 points in 11 games, thus slipping to eighth position on the points table.
Mukesh Kumar, meanwhile, has played 8 games for DC in IPL 2026, where he picked 5 wickets at 11.13 economy.
Bengal T20 League 2026 to begin in June
Once the IPL 2026 season is over, the Bengal T20 League 2026 season will begin in the month of June. 8 teams will compete in a round robin format. However, the official schedule is yet to be put out by CAB.
All games are expected to be played in West Bengal. Along with the men’s league, a women’s tournament is also likely to be played.
Murshidabad Kings will be the defending champions after they beat Sobisco Smashers Malda in the final of the 2025 season.
