After losing two consecutive Twenty20 series against England and Ireland, the first time since 2018-19, there are indications that changes may be made to the Gautam Gambhir’s Indian cricket team support staff.
According to the latest reports, assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel are likely to leave the team. The current contracts of both are ending after the one-day series against England.
After a sustained period of poor performance, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will review the team and support staff.
The team's poor fielding has also become a matter of concern for the board. There is talk that fielding coach T. Dilip may also be removed after India dropped more than 10 catches during their tours of Ireland and England.
Last year, he was removed from the team along with Abhishek Nayar but was later reinstated. Assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate is reportedly not satisfied with the schedule of continuous travel with the Indian team throughout the year and has also conveyed this to the BCCI.
There is talk that he may be associated with an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, while Morkel is also looking for other options.
That being said, in this article, let’s take a look at what the Team India coach and support staff setup looks like at present.

India’s performance under current head coach Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir completed exactly two years as Team India’s head coach on July 9, 2026. He was appointed to the role on the same day in 2024. It was a complete transformation of the Indian cricket team, after which the Men in Blue went through historic ups and downs with drastic changes in playing style and approach.

Riding on the T20 World Cup 2024 high under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team had bid farewell to Rahul Dravid as all-format head coach, with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retiring from the shortest format of the game.
However, after GG took over the change of the team, not only did India lose a fair share of bilateral series, but it also received a significant setback after Ro-Ko’s Test retirement.
On the other hand, the red-ball form, India continued to assert dominance in white-ball cricket, winning the back-to-back T20 World Cup 2026 title, making history.
Nonetheless, in the very first assignment after successfully defending the T20 World title, India went on to lose a 2-match T20I series against Ireland, handing the hosts their first-ever bilateral T20I series win over India.
The misery didn’t end there; the Men in Blue, under a new captain, Shreyas Iyer, lost the five-match series at the hands of England.
