For the first time in 968 days, Jasprit Bumrah was included in India’s ODI playing XI as the Men in Blue took on the hosts, England, in the first game of the series at Edgbaston. Since the heartbreaking 2023 World Cup final, Bumrah has not featured in ODIs as India has used him in Tests and the T20I format.

The right-arm pacer certainly has an aura, and opting to bat first, the England openers were careful against Bumrah in his initial few overs. Their plan was simple: Play the Indian seamer carefully and target the other bowlers.

However, you cannot keep a champion bowler down as Bumrah, after an underwhelming first spell, roared back to dismiss English captain Harry Brook and entered history books with his 150th ODI scalp.

Bumrah surpasses Ravindra Jadeja to become the greatest ODI bowler in England

Bumrah bowled a short-of-a-length ball as Brook gave a tentative poke and the outside-edge was taken by the fielder at first slip. This was the Indian pacer’s 150th wicket in this format, and in the process, he surpassed Ravindra Jadeja to create history.

Before the first ODI, both Bumrah and Jadeja had 30 ODI wickets each in England, but with Brook’s dismissal, the 32-year-old seamer achieved his 31st scalp and surpassed Jadeja to become the best Indian bowler in England.
