The Afghanistan cricket team is set to ‘host’ Team India in India for a three-match T20I series next month. It now appears that the India vs Afghanistan series will have a direct influence of this year’s FIFA World Cup 2026, as it panned out in the USA back in June and July.
In a revolutionary move, a certain tech used in the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be put to use in the upcoming India vs Afghanistan T20I series in Delhi.
FIFA World Cup 2026 makes its way to India vs Afghanistan T20I series
ITW Universe holds the rights to the upcoming Afghanistan vs India T20I series in India next month. The media consulting group is planning to elevate the production of the series to the same standards recently seen in the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States and Canada a couple of months ago.

As per an official statement from the rights holder, the upcoming India vs Afghanistan T20I series will be first-ever bilateral cricketing event which will be produced to full FIFA World Cup host-broadcast standards.
The statement further stated that the same group of individuals who directed the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches will be leading the gallery of the India vs Afghanistan T20I series. It is worth noting that the same individuals have also previously directed multiple UEFA Champions League finals.
ITW Universe founder Bhairav Shanth said “We endorse his philosophy, which is to give the viewer the best seat in the house.”
How will FIFA World Cup 2026 tech benefit India vs Afghanistan series
The Afghanistan vs India T20I series in India will be directed specifically by Jamie Oakford, who has previously covered every FIFA World Cup since 2002.
As per this revolutionary football-cricket crossover, advanced tech like AI-stabilized POV cameras, volumetric free-viewpoint technology, advanced Spidercam, ultra-motion and cine-style storytelling will be used in the production of the impending T20I series in Delhi.
As stated by Cricbuzz, the series will also use Quidich Innovation Labs’ Spatio system. The system delivers “broadcast-grade augmented reality overlaid on a stabilised drone feed.”
A dedicated ultra-slow-motion camera system will also feature in the India vs Afghanistan T20I series. In cricketing terms, the aforementioned camera system can capture deliveries, edges, shots as well as any other form of high-octane action moments at 600 frames per second.
Afghanistan vs India T20I series likely to undergo schedule change
Earlier this month, the ACB announced that Afghanistan will be ‘hosting’ Team India in India for a three-match T20I series in September next month. The India vs Afghanistan series will mark the first-ever occasion for the Indian cricket team to play at home without holding the ‘host’ status.
While the initial schedule indicated that the three matches will be played between September 13 and September 17 in Delhi, it now appears that the itinerary might see a slight adjustment in lieu of the coinciding Ganesh Chaturthi festival in the country.
