The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed that Afghanistan will host India in a three-match T20I series in September, with all three games scheduled at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The unusual arrangement will see Afghanistan designated as the host despite the matches being played in India, as the country continues to stage home fixtures overseas.

The series was initially fixed for September 13, 15 and 17. However, the schedule could now undergo a change, with the ACB reportedly approaching the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over a possible alteration.

The India vs Afghanistan proposed schedule currently is:

  • 1st T20I: September 13
  • 2nd T20I: September 15
  • 3rd T20I: September 17

India vs Afghanistan Schedule Change Likely

According to the latest reports from the Times of India, the ACB has asked the BCCI whether one of the first two T20Is can be shifted to September 14. The date falls on Ganesh Chaturthi, a major Hindu festival celebrated across India.

As per the same report, the Afghanistan board is considering moving either the opening match, currently scheduled for September 13, or the second game, scheduled for September 15, to September 14.

"#breaking As per sources, The @ACBofficials is negotiating with the @BCCI, offering to move one of the games of their three-match T20I series against India in September (match dates Sept 13, 15 ; 17), to September 14, the day of Ganesh Chaturthi." as per latest reports from TOI.

"Sources familiar with the developments have revealed that the Afghanistan Cricket board has asked the BCCI if it would be possible to move the first or second match of the T20I series to September 14, thereby giving the series a festive touch." as per TOI.

Why ACB Is Planning To Change IND vs AFG Series In India?

The schedule change for the India vs Afghanistan series is aimed at giving the three-match series a festive touch and potentially attracting greater interest around the occasion.

However, the proposed change is not yet confirmed, and the final decision will depend on discussions between the ACB and BCCI.

Is Bangladesh A Reason For IND vs AFG Series Schedule Change?

It is important to note that Bangladesh is not the reason for the likely change in the India vs Afghanistan series schedule.

India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is, was originally planned for August 2025 but was later postponed.

The tour is now expected to take place in September 2026, but it remains uncertain because of ongoing political and diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh.

There is also a scheduling clash with India's planned T20I series against Afghanistan.

So, the IND vs AFG potential schedule change is not directly linked to Bangladesh. The Bangladesh tour itself remains uncertain due to separate political and scheduling issues.
