Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam is available for selection for the upcoming series-deciding second Test against Australia in Mackay. The cricketer recently missed Bangladesh’s opening match of the series in Darwin owing to his injury concern.

As Shoriful re-joins the national squad after passing the fitness test, the 25-year-old has now provided crucial injury and recovery update ahead of the all-important second match of the tour.

Shoriful Islam sees the upside of injury break

Shoriful Islam certainly has no regrets over missing Bangladesh’s historic Test win over Australia at the Marrara Oval in Darwin this past weekend. Moreover, the cricketer is glad that he had an injury break before re-joining the national squad.

According to Shoriful, the injury break prompted him to take necessary rest during his rehabilitation days, and believes that the break was “good” for his body.

While speaking with the reporters on Tuesday, August 18 in Mackay, the 25-year-old said “No, not unlucky. Whatever happens doesn't happen with prior notice. After the injury, I got a few days of rest and did my rehab. I think it was good for my body.”

Shoriful Islam is also raring to go against Australia in Bangladesh’s upcoming series-deciding second Test match.

He added “It feels really good. I will try to carry this forward. I am always ready. Let's see, if it's in my destiny, In Sha Allah (playing the match).”

Shoriful Islam sets sights on historic series win for Bangladesh

The Bangladesh fast bowler has now firmly set his sight on sealing a historic Test series win on Australian soil. Shoriful expressed his confidence over Bangladesh’s chances as the team prepares to take on Pat Cummins and co. at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.

He said “Of course. Which team does not want to win a series? We also want to win the series. In Sha Allah, we will try.”

What is Shoriful Islam’s record in Test cricket

Shoriful has played just 13 Tests for Bangladesh so far in his career. The cricketer has picked up 27 wickets in the process at an expensive bowling average of 36.03.

He played the last of those 13 Tests back in May this year in the series-decider against Pakistan in Sylhet. The 25-year-old recently played the ODI series in Zimbabwe before an injury ruled him out of the first half of the Australian tour.

Bangladesh at the precipice of history

Bangladesh, aided by fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain and ‘Player of the Match’ Hasan Mahmud, crushed Australia by nine wickets in Darwin to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

The outcome marked Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win on Australian soil, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto describing it their biggest cricketing achievement to date.

The return of Shoriful Islam ahead of the decider will only further strengthen the all-firing Bangladesh pace attack in Mackay. If Bangladesh manages to win or either draw the impending second Test, they will become only the second Asian side after India to record a Test series win in Australia.

The match will be played between August 22 and August 26 starting later this week.
