Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and former India all-rounder great Yuvraj Singh share a sweet relationship, with their love and affection for each other coming on full display after the former cricketer engaged in some light-hearted banter with the wicketkeeper on social media.

After India secured their first Test win against Sri Lanka at Galle on August 19, Rishabh Pant posted a gratitude message on his Instagram account. Yuvraj Singh responded with a light-hearted pat on his back, accompanied by a witty and scolding remark.

Rishabh Pant expresses delight on India's win

Following India's dominant 165-run win over Sri Lanka, Pant took to his official Instagram handle and shared a video featuring some of the special moments from the match. The video included pictures of Pant alongside contributions from Devdutt Padikkal, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Captioning the post, Pant wrote, "Good win. Well done, everyone. And a special thank you to the ground staff of the day, who worked tirelessly through the rain, kept the field ready and made sure the game could go on."

As Pant posted this at around 2:30 PM IST on Instagram, Yuvraj Singh took to his official social media handle to leave a witty yet scolding remark on Pant's post.

Yuvraj wrote, "What a player! Missed his 50 then his hundred. Aur Putter?" Singh was referring to the opportunities Rishabh Pant missed to score big in India's first and second innings.

When the Men in Blue posted 462 in their first innings, Pant, who came in to bat at No. 5, played a valiant knock of 39 runs off 62 deliveries. He appeared to be taking things slowly before being dismissed by Keshara Nuwantha in the 81st over while attempting to play a big shot.

In the second innings, Pant looked well-set on 66 runs before once again attempting to shuffle out of his crease and go big, seemingly looking to convert the delivery into a maximum or boundary.

However, he fell while trying to play an aggressive shot, with Lahiru Kumara claiming his wicket in the 41st over of India's second innings. The dismissal naturally appeared to be a case of Pant throwing his wicket away in a Test match.

Yuvraj Singh reprimands Rishabh Pant

Replying to Yuvraj, Rishabh Pant came up with an even wittier response. Pant explained that he is taking slow steps to rebuild his confidence in the Test setup and is trying to improve his numbers, despite never playing the game for statistics.

Pant wrote, "Paaji, taking baby steps, building confidence for the big one. And trying to get better with numbers cause never played for it."

It is certainly true that Pant's style of cricket has always been aggressive, especially in Test cricket. Known for his unorthodox approach against the red ball, Pant is often seen going down the ground even when there is seemingly no need to up the ante.

Over the years in Test cricket, Pant has maintained a strike rate of around 70-78 since making his debut in 2018. In 2026 too, across the two matches he has featured in, he boasts a strike rate of 73.80 while averaging 62.00 with 186 runs.

Has Yuvraj Singh mentored Rishabh?

For those unaware, Yuvraj Singh and Rishabh Pant share a warm mentor-protégé relationship. Since July 2022, Yuvraj has been close to Pant, following the famous 45-minute phone conversation that helped the wicketkeeper-batter produce a brilliant, career-defining 125 against England in Manchester.

After Pant's severe car accident, Yuvraj Singh visited him to show his support and encouragement to the then-young wicketkeeper-batter. Pant has also spent multiple days training under Yuvraj in Mumbai at the Cricket Club of India, where the former cricketer focused heavily on mindset and temperament rather than technique.

Yuvraj's focus during their multi-hour psychological and skill-based discussions was to sharpen Pant's mental approach to the game. This is probably why the fun dynamic between Singh and Pant feels so relatable and contextual.

In recent days, Rishabh Pant has also shown his appreciation for Yuvraj Singh as a mentor by gifting him a custom golf club bag, which delighted the former India all-rounder immensely.

Nevertheless, the mentor-student relationship between the two continues to grow stronger, with social media once again serving as a witness to their special bond.
