Pakistan hit new low in ICC WTC points table [Source: AFP]
The ICC updated the World Test Championship points table following the conclusion of the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
After losing the opening encounter in Mirpur, Pakistan locked horns with their Bangladesh counterparts in the must-win decider at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Riding on Mushfiqur Rahim's stellar century, the hosts set a daunting target of 437 runs for the Shan Masood-led side.
Despite losing openers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal in quick succession, Pakistan showed commendable fighting spirit, giving Bangladesh a run for their money.
Mohammad Rizwan composed a gritty knock, while valiant efforts from skipper Masood, Babar Azam, Salman Ali Agha and Sajid Khan received massive accolades from the cricket fraternity.
However, their spirited effort was simply not enough, as Bangladesh sealed the game to complete a historic whitewash on home soil.
The Tigers' clinical win helped them move past India in the WTC points table, which was updated immediately after the Sylhet Test.

As mentioned above, the disastrous loss to Bangladesh significantly reduced Pakistan's PCT, although the Shan Masood-led team retained the eighth spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table.
Pat Cummins-led Australia still claim the first position, while Bangladesh's 78-run win over Pakistan in Sylhet meant India's demotion in the WTC table. The victory marked Bangladesh's second win in four matches in the ongoing cycle, as they moved up to the fifth spot with a PCT of 58.34.

India, meanwhile, slipped to the sixth position in the WTC table, further jeopardising their chances of qualifying for the final of the competition.
Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, the Indians will take on Afghanistan in a one-off Test in June; however, that game isn't part of the World Test Championship cycle.
New Zealand, Australia and South Africa emerge as top contenders to play WTC final
New Zealand are second on the list, having won two out of three matches in the current WTC cycle.
Defending champions South Africa are actively competing with the Trans-Tasman rivals for a second consecutive entry into the WTC final.
The Proteas are ranked third in the WTC table with an impressive PCT of 75. While Bangladesh dethroned India and claimed the fifth position, Sri Lanka are the dark horses in the WTC final race.
The Lankans are placed fourth in the WTC table with a PCT of 66.67, and their face-off with India at home will simplify the equations as far as the qualification for the WTC final is concerned.
India's upcoming WTC fixtures
Shubman Gill-led Indian team has played nine matches in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. They will take on Sri Lanka and New Zealand across four Tests before facing Australia in a highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy on home soil.
The fixtures of the India vs New Zealand and India vs Sri Lanka series have yet to be announced, while the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played in January-February next year.
